Anchor Bay Blu-ray Boxsets Revealed

Posted August 19, 2008 08:05 AM by Josh Dreuth

Anchor Bay Entertainment In an early announcement to retailers, Anchor Bay Home Entertainment has revealed that they will bundle their Masters of Horror series into the 'Blu-ray Masters of Horror Bundle' on September 9th. Additionally, they will release the Amazon-exclusive 'Blu-ray Zombie Bundle' (which will feature 'Dawn of the Dead', 'Day of the Dead', and 'Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn') on the same day.

These will be direct bundles with no additional features, so for those of you who already own these titles, there is no benefit in picking up the bundle. But if you have been holding out on these great titles, now is the time to pick them up.

The box sets are nice for those who are new to Blu Ray. I just wish they would announce even more new titles though.

I've been waiting to pick up the "Dead" movies, and this is a nice set, but Amazon has the price at $61.95, which is over $20 a movie. Considering these movies can often be found on sale for less, that's not much of a deal.

Cool Zombie Bundle. It's too bad I already own all three. Still, a great gift set for anyone new to blu.

<< Rrrrr give us new titles. Like Evil Dead 1. >>

I've seen the HD master used for Anchor Bay's widescreen DVD of Evil Dead. It's almost indistinguishable from the DVD. Evil Dead was shot on 16mm in poor lighting conditions and on cheap stock. It's only by virtue of Raimi's talent that the film looks decent at all. There isn't much more resolution you can squeeze out of that film than we already have on DVD.

Not that I wouldn't buy the blu-ray anyway, mind you. ;-)

Evil Dead II is a zombie movie? Maybe granny in the basement counts as one but thats about it.

I'd buy the Zombie Bundle if the price wasn't so ridiculously high. Amazon is going to have to do a lot better than $61.95 if they want anyone to buy it. You could buy all three separately for for $47.85.
