Cambridge Audio Announces Blu-ray Player

Posted September 5, 2008 11:25 AM by Josh Dreuth

Blu-ray Disc Cambridge Audio, a manufacturer of high-end audio components, has announced that they will release a yet to be named Blu-ray Disc player in February or March of next year. It will be BD-Live compatible, and support decoding of all audio formats except DTS-HD Master Audio, which it will be able to bitstream to a compatible receiver.

The player will also feature 8 channel analog-outs and a v1.3 HDMI connection. The player is expected to retail for $995.

Good to see more high end boys getting in the game. Now if we can get more "compatible receivers" !!! Hear this Rotel ??? Arcam ???

In the past, everything with the "Cambridge" label was usually a rebadge. I wonder who's really making this player.

Why are all of these companies wasting our time and money, buy putting out all of these players with only "some" of the features?Get it right or suffer lost sales.....should be a no brainer.

I counted the list of BD players, there are over 90, some may not be being made longer, but come on, lets get some more movies before we get more players.

Well from an audio standpoint, this should be top notch. I can't wait to see it when it comes out and read the reviews.

Nice one, the more manufacturers entering the Blu-ray game altogether the better.

They almost hit a 'home run' with this one but NO internal decoding of DTS Master Audio? Shame, shame! That's a HUGE downer for anyone planning on using the 7.1 analog outputs or for someone using an early HDMI AVR without decoders built-in. However, I'm glad to see more BD-Live compatible players and to see Cambridge in the Blu-ray arena!

So let me get this straight... Cambridge Audio, a manufacturer of high-end audio components, couldn't even get the audio right on their first BD player? Great job guys!

Since when did Cambridge Audio become a "high-end" audio manufacturer? They are mid-fi at best, in the same ranking as Marantz, NAD, and Denon. If Mark Levinson were to release a BD Live player, it would be high end.

Nowdays - FOX, Paramount, Universal releases USE (mostly!) ONLY DTS Master Audio - and WHAT Co. of HIGH END AUDIO PRODUCT WILL BE TRUE H I G H E N D without DTS MA ?!! Starnge?!

Why let the player decode the codecs when it can bitstream them to the reciever?? If you're buying a high end player, chances are you also have a high end reciever. But the PS3 crowd will beg to differ.
If anyone bothered to read the link, they said that DTS-HD MA decoding "requires more processing power than the player’s chipset offers".

Aren't players supposed to be going DOWN in price?

Mark Levinson? Nah... not high-end enough. Mark Levinson buyers are the audio equivalent of a doctor who buys a harley.

This is lame.. Just because Arcam & Cambridge are 'high end' they just stick a huge price tag on it.. Now, if it's truly better then 400 BR players for video/audio then I will have no problem with it.. But something tells me the Oppo BRP will blow it out of the water in terms of compatibly & features for half the price..

Derreckla, that's not three letters...that's two letters and one number.

I think i'll stick with my Samsung BD-P1400 for a while yet, with each firmware update it gets better, and it can handle DTS MA HD with my Onkyo 605 amp.
