UK Gets Dark Knight Date; US Next?

Posted September 24, 2008 08:11 AM by Josh Dreuth

Warner Bros. In an early report to retailers, Warner Home Video UK has revealed that they will release the Christian Bale blockbuster 'The Dark Knight' for Blu-ray on December 8th, day-and-date with the DVD release. The two-disc set will likely feature those specs recently reported, including a Dolby TrueHD soundtrack.

With the UK date now semi-officially in place, it is likely that the US release date will soon been announced for December 9th. Keep watching this space for any updates.

I wish they would announce how they plan to incorporate the IMAX footage; ie. changing aspect ratios - will it be seamless branching or not? Just wondering. I'd like the option to watch it either way I choose; however, I'll be getting the movie either way.

Last I heard there was a interview with Nolan who said the Imax footage would change to 1:78.1 on the home video versions. Rest of the movie would be in 2:35.1.

Moefiz, there was a bunch of fanboys crying for DTS-HD MA 7.1 even though WB has never put out a DTS-HD MA disc and the film itself was never intended/mixed for 7.1 (5.1, not even 5.1 EX/ES, just 5.1). But yet since some website said the audio spec was something along the lines of "Dolby 7.1 DTS," they took that as "DTS-HD MA 7.1" and have been crying about it ever since. So sad...

From what I have heard, there will be a limited collector's edition 3-disc set much like what Warner did for Batman Begins (although it was a 2-disc) and contain various extras. Trust me, I don't doubt Warner Brothers is going to give this the absolute special treatment for the Blu-Ray release. If they do a steel book, chances are it will be something done through Future Shop in Canada, since they seem to get a lot of the steel book exclusives.

The Dark Knight is also scheduled to be re-released in theaters in January as a pre-Oscar push.
