Warner Home Video has announced the specs for the upcoming Blu-ray release of 'NBA Champions 2007-2008: Boston Celtics', which is due to hit store shelves on November 4th, day-and-date with the DVD release. Coming on a BD-25, video will be presented in 2.40:1 1080p VC-1 accompanied by a Dolby Stereo 2.0 soundtrack.
Dolby Stereo? They couldn't even fake mix it into 5.1? I thought the stuff on TNT was broadcast in 5.1, maybe not. Still it should be a great documentary of a great team having a great season. Go Green!
Let's hope this disk sells well enough that they'll release some more NBA (especially Celtics) stuff on BD! Let's also hope the Sox win the series again so we can get two Boston Sports Championships in a year along with two BDs!
Dolby Digital 2.0? Are you kidding me? Warner is just getting lazy now and playing cheap. First only DD 5.1 on some there Blu-ray's now this. I guess the die hard BC fans will pick this up.
I'm not trying to defend any party here, but there are still many a professional sports broadcast that don't adhere to the rules of HDTV - 5.1 channel audio. Depending on where you go, it's a limitation of broadcast truck, arena, transmission, or simple lack of proper equipment. Of course, you can expect more and more sports broadcasts to go 5.1 in the future, but the sports television industry has been slow to adapt.
