Paramount Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring 'Friday the 13th Unrated: Deluxe Edition' to Blu-ray on February 3rd, day-and-date with the DVD re-release. Technical specs have yet to be announced, but you can expect the usual Paramount treatment of 1080p video accompanied by a Dolby TrueHD soundtrack.
Extras have also yet to be announced for the Blu-ray, but it should mirror the DVD release which includes:
- Commentary: Commentary by director Sean Cunningham (on the WB international version - trying to access)
- Fresh Cuts: New Tales from "Friday the 13th"
- Man Behind the Legacy: Sean S. Cunningham
- Friday the 13th - Special Reunion
- Lost Tales from Camp Blood - Part 1
- Theatrical Trailer - Used on 2004 release

sinister184 - I think the point of releasing it Feb rather than Halloween is to tie it in with the remake coming out around that time. I think that would actually maximize the sales numbers more than releasing it in the Halloween season which was flooded with quite a number of great Blu-ray horror titles already.
I will buy this. How can I not?? |

WOOOHOOOO!!!!! But I'm still going to keep my Region 2 DVD from Warner Bros. since I doubt Paramount bought the rights to their documentary "Return to Crystal Lake", which had the participation of Sean S. Cunningham, Adrienne King and Betsy Palmer and was excellent.
<< great news, but it would have made more sense to release this during October for Halloween, no? >>
No, it makes more sense to release it close to the release of the cinema reboot of the franchise, when interest in the older films will be at its highest. |

The film was cut by about 10s for a US R rating:
1. Annie has her throat cut. The R rated version adds the white out before we get a good glimpse at the Tom Savini created FX.
2. Kevin Bacon's girlfriend gets an axe in the skull: Once again this cuts away to an early, imposed, whiteout. There is about a second more of gory detail.
3. A birds eye view of Kevin Bacon with a spear exiting out of his throat has been censored (this is approx. 4 seconds long). The current version shows us a side view of his death then jumps before we get the other angle.
4. The decapitation of Mrs. Voorhees has been cut of one sequence involving her headless torso. The cut is quite obtrusive and the sequence has been slightly re edited so that we cut back to Alice sooner than we should. The sound jumps too, so it's not hard to notice this cut. |

HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLSSSSS YESSSSSSSS!!
I'm hoping the rest will be joining the first fairly soon but this is a great start! This should looks great on Blu-ray considering the DVD looks respectable FOR A DVD of this age! |

It would have been nice if they could have released a box set of the 8 Paramount Friday the 13th films...I am sure they will at some point in the future. They probably want to see how well the first one sells. |

I love some of the sequels, so I guess it would be prudent of me to wait for some kind of box set. |

Definite for me. Especially unrated version. I liked the first two a lot, after that I believe they got ridicolous. This coinsiders perfect with the reboot being release next year. |

As stated above, I would really like to have a boxset of the Paramount films. But I am by no means complaining about this coming up by itself. As long as it ends up being as good of a release as it seems like it could be, I will be very happy. |
