Rumor Updates on Star Trek and New Transformers Release

Posted November 11, 2008 09:53 AM by Josh Dreuth

Blu-ray Movies Our friend Bill Hunt has a few updates on upcoming 2009 Blu-ray releases from studios, as well as a couple new titles coming to fans soon. As previously rumored, Paramount will be bringing the first six Star Trek theatrical films to Blu-ray next year around the time of the next Star Trek film release, which is due to hit theaters in May.

Paramount is also planing to release 'Transformers: Extended Edition' timed with the theatrical release of the second Transformers film.

Disney is planning to release 'Pretty Woman' in February, followed by 'Sin City' sometime there after. There is also talk that 'Armageddon' will see release sometime during the Spring as well.

And finally, astute readers will have noticed that Warner Japan has announced their first four Batman films for Blu-ray release. Warner has yet to confirm a US release, but sources say that they'll be in the US sometime in the Spring.

    Paramount
  • Star Trek: The Motion Picture
  • Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
  • Star Trek III: The Search for Spock
  • Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
  • Star Trek V: The Final Frontier
  • Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
  • Transformers: Extended Edition

    Walt Disney
  • Pretty Woman (February)
  • Sin City
  • Armageddon

    Warner Brothers
  • Batman
  • Batman Returns
  • Batman and Robin
  • Batman Forever

I want a date on Sin City, this movie has been "rumored" forever! I remember back in early 07, people were saying probably at the end of the year, then it was the beginning of 08, then late 08 and now its early 09! Just released it!

Thank you for this, now I know not to buy the current transformers blu-ray.

I hope Sin City is the extended director's cut. I didn't really like the theatrical cut.

Damn you Paramount! We waited all this time and you finally gave us Transformers only to try to make us double dip on an Extended Edition. If there isn't a rebate for current owners or at least a free ticket to see the new Transformers in theatres I'm not buying.

Well, it looks as though StarWars fans are one step closer to the promised land.

Congrats to all the happy Star Trek fans, as they deserve every happiness and I hope they get a great set of transfers in Blu.

I'm totally comfortable with a Transfromers double dip down the road and I'm also looking forward to the batman movies. 1+2 were great. 3 I only ever watch for Nicole Kidman and 4 is just one big drinking game.

Sin City was never one of my favorites, but it is visually stunning none the less and will most likely end up in my Jessica Alba sub-collection.

Come to think of it, these are all really good releases and we have a great new year to look forward to.

ARMAGEDDON and possibly TRANSFORMERS (only if it's a MAJOR upgrade). I'm extremely happy with my Canadian SIN CITY and won't upgrade unless that's a major improvement (which would take a LOT).

Wooohooo!!! All the Star Treks for me!! Can't wait until they announce something for 'First Contact'! I'll pass on double dipping for Transformers, but I agree if there's a free ticket, I might just have to sell my current Transformers.

I really hope the blu transfer will be good on 'Pretty Woman' - a classic I'd like to own!

Very excited for Armageddon and given the fact that its a Disney release we know it'll get the treatment it deserves!

So what is being added to Transformers? The BD had tons of stuff on it.

Wish they would release all the Star Trek films. The ones they are releasing seem to stop before the
good ones like the one about the Borg. I really enjoyed that one. Oh well.

Part of me is geeking out about the Transformers: EE, but the other part is really ticked off because I already own the current release. Double dipping FTL.

I'd guess they only announced the first 6 Star Trek movies because those are the ones featuring the original cast. And since the new movie is about the original crew, it makes sense to tie them together for marketing. I'm sure the final 4 Next Generation movies will follow eventually. It would be silly to release all 10 at once (though cool).

And I'm torn about the extended cut of Transformers. Upgrading depends on what the final product includes.

If this new release of Transformers has the $10 MIR that the current one has I think I will be up for that. That and all the WD movies.

Sin City is actually available here in Canada, i've seen it at wal-mart, best buy, etc... But it is only the theatrical cut of the film not the extended version.
