Even More LOTR Rumblings

Posted November 12, 2008 09:16 AM by Josh Dreuth

Warner Bros. Our good friend Bill Hunt is at it again, and today he has more information regarding the upcoming release of the 'Lord of the Rings' films. This bad news is that when Warner delivers the films sometime late next year, they will be of the theatrical versions of the films. The good news is that this decision was made because director Peter Jackson wants to save the extended versions for a super Blu- ray boxset to be released near the theatrical release of 'The Hobbit'.

With the original extended cut box sets being of the utmost quality, I have high hopes that Jackson will once again produce a magnificent Blu-ray box set for the extended cuts of the film. Until then (which will be about two years if 'The Hobbit' stays on schedule, enjoy the theatricals cuts on Blu-ray sometime next year.

Definitely not a double dip for me until the extended cuts come out...but great to see that they're working on it!

Maybe once Jackson hears that we are all going to wait this one out - he will reconsider.

Jackson was a bit of an idiot letting that one out the box.

I'm ok with studios double-dipping like this when they make it known ahead of time that another version is coming. I'm disappointed that we have to wait, though. My DVDs will suffice until the extended editions are released. (I might break down and rent the theatricals though...)

I don't even like LOTR, but why would the ten's of thousands of fans who do, buy the first ones when
there already telling us there's a "Super Blu-ray Box Set" coming...?

NOOOOOOOOO! - Why not have BOTH on one disc?! Come on! So disappointed!!! Why, with the capacity of Blu-ray do we have to choose? Seamless branching is available for this exact scenario - this is such a massive let down.

I double dipped on the theatricals, so I'll probably double dip again here, but I may reconsider seeing as I don't really ever want to watch the theatrical cuts ever again.

Yeah I ain't double tripple dipping of Lord of the Rings titles they are only ok. I will wait for the extended Box sets for each film. I WON'T be buying the theatrical editions at all.

I'll definitely rent/watch the theatrical, and I'll most definitely purchase the EE box set.

These films are one of the few films I will rebuy on Blu ray, but i will definately wait for the deluxe editions that will come out at the same time as the Hobbit. I'm thinking the Star wars films will be the others I will rebuy if they come with deluxe editions. Hmmm and maybe one or two of the Star Trek films, heheh and maybe ...

Though I'd like to say I'll wait, I will likely double dip on this.

I'm happy to see the studio is letting the consumers know of the double release in advance, however little financial sense it makes (to them). However, there are folks who prefer the shorter Theatrical versions of these films, so this is good news for them.

It will be difficult to wait for the "SUPER SET", but I'll do my best.
