Fansite Fangoria has been alerted by Anchor Bay Home Entertainment that they will bring 'Hellraiser' to Blu-ray as a 20th Anniversary Edition this April. Originally scheduled to come out before the end of the year, no reason was given for the delay. Supplemental features are expected to match the 20th Anniversary DVD, which was released last year.
Extras for the DVD release include:
Actress From Hell - An Interview with Star Ashley Laurence
Audio Commentary with Writer/Director Clive Barker and Ashley Laurence. Moderated by Screenwriter Peter Atkins
Hellcomposer - An Interview with Composer Christopher Young
HELLRAISER: Resurrection
Mr. Cotton, I Presume? - An Interview with Star Andrew Robinson
Wow, can't wait! I thought we might have to wait a while for this one so it's great news. Also, I agree andyman1970. I'll be extremely pleased if they do as good of a job as they did with Halloween.
They had better not screw this one up or I will go find the people who did and go full on Pinhead on their asses. This is in my opinion the best horror movie of the the classic slasher horror movies from the 80's. Barker is the MAN. And like pElEg said, I hope we get Nightbreed SOON.
Big Hellraiser fan here! I even bought all the DTV sequels that were released on DVD. And now the original classic is coming to blu. It will be mine. Oh yes, it will be mine.
About time! Don't remove all the grain like you did on Evil Dead II! Stick that DNR where the sun don't shine and no, not in hell, Hellraiser that is ;-)
They delayed this because they were trying to waiting until the remake hit theaters. But with that kind of being in limbo at them moment, it will come out as stated.
How do I know this?...
Because I asked the guys running the Anchor Bay table at the last Monster Mania and they were very open with their plans for this release. Basically, if it weren't for Hellraiser being green-lighted for a remake, it would have been out already. So they said.
Looking forward to this. Though I like the first one more, I am really looking forward to the second film. See the blood red and the white bandages are going to look great in HD.
As usual, Anchor Bay skips the subtitles. Apparently they prefer to keep their titles to the english speaking crowd. Hopefully, their sales will reflect that.
This ones a question mark for me, the audio should be totally kick ass, but the picture quality, its a thinker, would high definition take away the creepieness of the film? would it be to sharp? would you notice the prosthetics too much? I would have to say I would rent it before I bought it, I have the Anchor Bay box set of the first three films, and Hellraiser always sends a shiver down my spine. Definitley rent, and if it still had the same effect on me, then I would buy it.
