The fifth quarter has officially started, and while for the most part studios are enjoying some well-deserved time off, Paramount has come out swinging with five hits from their extensive catalog. Today they are releasing 'Days of Thunder', 'Event Horizon', 'Ghost', 'Last Holiday', 'The Truman Show', the later of which Review Editor Ben Williams recently posted a wonderful review for.
Universal is playing catch-up with their release of 'Serenity' (some of you may recall that this was one of the first HD DVD titles to be released) while New Line (courtesy of Warner) is releasing 'Wedding Crashers'. And to round it out - seriously, that's it folks - Anchor Bay is releasing the Matthew McConaughey film 'Surfer, Dude'. Yeah, I have no idea either.
Take advantage of the slow week by catching up on some of those missed catalog titles and rewatch some of those Blu-ray favorites.
Amazon has shipped my copy of The Truman Show out already and I'm quite happy about it. The review of the disc says it looks great. One of the best films of the 90s!
Was able to pick up Event Horizon and Days of Thunder at Best Buy. My Best Buy didn't get any Wedding Crashers. I am bummed. Will get it when they get it in though.
just for the hell of it i hit bestbuy today and i only found one copy of serenity.
i couldn't find any other new release there.
i find bestbuy never has all the new releases, like they say they do.
they suck!
"Serenity" is amazing!!! Its in multiple languages with loads of features... OH! I'm in love!
I also picked up "Days of Thunder". Only ever saw the opening on Tv and couldn't stand the crop so I
stopped. Listen to this link and imagine it in Dolby True HD. It's incredible, especially when the bass
kicks in at the 1:03 section! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7Xazsds1SA&feature=related
I went to several different stores today; Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Target and Circuit City; none of these places had any of these titles. I was really hoping to get Event Horizon and Wedding Crashers, but looks like I will have to wait.
There's nothing out today that I'm getting, but any day with a handful of catalog titles debuting on blu is a cause for celebration. I figure by New Year's eve next year there will be a mouth-watering selection out there.
