Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring 'Ghostbusters' to Blu-ray for the 25th Anniversary of the film on June 16th. The film, which has recently received new transfers for both video and audio, will be presented in 2.20:1 1080p AVC accompanied by a 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtrack.
Extra for this release include:
Digitally Mastered Audio and Video (BD Exclusive)
Slimer Mode: Picture-in-Picture Graphical Viewing Experience with an examination of the spook-hunters' firehouse headquarters, an in-depth exploration of the creatures in the Ghostbusters mythology, behind-the-scenes discussions of making the movie, new cast, crew and special effects artists interviews and much more! (BD Exclusive)
Featurette: Ecto-1: Resurrecting the Classic Car (BD Exclusive)
Um...2.20:1? Tell me that's a misprint. Ordinarily with something like this I would just assume as much, but to put that right after specifically saying it's had a new transfer...and then to be that specific about the ratio...it just seems a little fishy. Also, the 70mm prints *were* in 2.20:1 according to imdb, so...anyway, I hope this is wrong because it'll undoubtedly be cropped at that ratio. Or at the very least, will seem that way even if it's the Director's intent...now that I'm used to the DVD framing I've had for years. I don't want an "Apocalypse Now" debacle on our hands on a title like this one!
I have the same question as Johnny... will GBII be released as well? Back when the rumors were floating about GB being released on Oct. 21st of 2008, the rumor had GB and GBII being released in a 2 pack. Any word on this?
Ghostbusters II is not yet scheduled for release. It will probably be released around the same time,
but it HAS NOT been announced yet. Also the aspect ratio for this one has typically been 2.35:1, but
it may just be a typo, or they may have opened up the matte from 2.35:1 to 2.20:1. I'm guessing
it's just a typo.
im a huge GB fan but i dunno if i can justify buying this fir the 99th time, not at 30 bucks each anyways....i saw an HD broadcast of this a little while ago and wasnt impressed at all. not to say it will be the same for blu ray but its usually a good indicator.
