In an early announcement to retailers, MGM Home Entertainment in conjunction with 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has revealed that they will bring 'The Terminator (Lenticular Cover)' to Blu-ray on May 12th, day-and-date with the DVD re-issue and one week before Lionsgate's new 'Terminator 2: Judgment Day (Skynet Edition)' Blu-ray.
According to our good friend Bill Hunt at The Digital Bits, MGM is simply re-issuing the existing disc with a new lenticular cover, so nothing new. The next obvious question becomes, when will be see a proper release for 'Terminator 3'? Japan may have already provided a hint, with Warner Home Video releasing a Dolby TrueHD version of the release there on June 5th. Hopefully we'll hear of a US release soon.
This kinda sucks, I have held off buying the version thats out now because i figured with 2009 being the year of Terminator Salvation, as well as the 25th anniversary of the film we would for sure be seeing a huge special edition to cash in on all the hype
I might still pick this up, but only because it looks like this is all we will get for a while (i do wish the franchise was all owned by the same studio so one day we could get a huge box set of all 6 films..if the franchise goes that far)
Sad day. I'll wait for the Lowry upgrade that has been rumored. No interest in a shiny cover. If I had to buy The Terminator, I'd save a few bucks and buy the 2006 release.
Sadly, I'll probably just continue to stick with my DVD for this one unless the price is irresistible. I'm all in for the new T2 blu and T3 as well when that hits. But I'm a bit disappointed on this one.
May be a very good movie indeed but in the old days a lot of these action movies can be seen the all the fake stuff behind the actors like this one. Do I really need to see this more clear on bluray?
Cool. I always love seeing the behind the scenes making of these movies with the green screens, 3d models, and artist renditions. I hope there are more features in this new release.
I wonder if T4 when that's released will have behind the scenes out takes of Christian Bale's rant. That may actually sell the movie.
I already got the old T2 Blu-Ray. Won't be buying it again until they give it a proper, modern remastering job or they include all the cuts of the movie on one disc.
Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. I've been avoiding and will continue to avoid the Terminator Blu-Ray, much as I love the film. I'm waiting for a BR that includes all the special features from the SE DVD, a good transfer, and lossless original mono track.
TTC1984, the new T2 disc is with the extended cuts! All THREE! But as for a new cover for the original, it's a shameless plot to trick people at stores. "hey, new cover, must be a new disc!" You see it on repackaged DVDs all the time
First they shaft us with the Skynet Edition deluxe set by repackaging all of the previous DVD's and now they shaft us on a repackaged T1 with crappy 1080p transfer. This film could really use Lowry Digital's touch for a newly restored crystal clear transfer. I was so distracted by all of the film impairments on my existing BD that I vowed never to watch it again until a properly restored version had been released. Looks like it may be years now or never.
This is the reason why people download movies for free....give us zero quality and re-release it again and again, after the 2nd or 3rd time around we get fed up and just download the damn thing.
I'm still pissed they didn't included the original mono sound mix. The new 5.1 mix they did was absurd. They completely replaced many sound effects, changed music and ruined the film for those of us who grew up with the original mix. I can't stand what they did to it and the only reason I would re-buy it is if they had the sense to include the original mono.
I have a feeling we will see a remastered Blu-Ray for the first Terminator when Salvation gets released on Blu-Ray. I think the Terminator franchise (mainly T2) was overkill with all the multiple DVD releases, but fans bought into them. If they hadn't, they would not have kept pumping out different versions for T2 back on standard DVD. But if people continue to buy them, the studio realizes there is still a market for them.
I didn't purchase Terminator or T2 on Blu-Ray yet because I knew those original releases were only going to last so long before new versions would be announced. I will probably pick up the Skynet Edition of T2, but I am going to hold off on getting this newly announced lenticular cover rebadge of the first Terminator Blu-Ray until later this year, because knowing Warner Brothers, I have a feeling we will see a deluxe version of Terminator coming out right along side Salvation. I could be wrong, I probably am, but I would rather wait a tad bit longer, since the first Terminator Blu-Ray from what I have read wasn't very impressive.
Terminator 3 was awful, I wouldn't bother picking it up on Blu-Ray if it was $9.99.
Give me a break! MGM Home Entertainment, there is almost no where left on my face not already slapped. A double dip for just a cover? Lame. We deserve a remastered, restored version with lossless audio.
Im A Huge Fan Of Slipcovers and Special Editions, Granted this usually comes with a special edition disc, im still the guy who has to have the best one, so a definant for me
