A&E Home Video has released a video detailing the process and results of their frame-by-frame restoration of the 16mm source for 'Pride and Prejudice', which is due to be released for Blu-ray on April 14th. As the video shows (after the jump), the results are impressive and one can only applaud A&E for the accomplishment.
They have also posted some images from the restoration which give you yet another direct comparison of where the image started, and what it looks like now.
Just bought the BBC version today( just released in Australia) Magnificent!
The colours and detail will delight. If A&E's version is the same, then what a treat for region A people. The restoration man says that recent technical developments made about 12 months ago, allowed for this type of restoration (impossible before this breakthrough)
Expect The original Avengers and Brideshead revisited (tv series) and many others to appear in HD on Blu-ray. Final words Darcy has never looked so good. So my old mum, and sisters can reestablish their P&P fantasies with renewed, colourful, vigor!
This is a suprisingly good "chick flick" in my male opinion. Good storyline, good humor and excellent dialog. I don't always need explosions and car crashes to enjoy a movie. A good story takes a lot more than that and this has it. I will be buying this to look at the restored images of Elizabeth Bennet and her sisters, but not so much to look at Darcy.
Interesting. I would have assumed that the negative was used in all high quality transfers. On Pride and Prejudice itself, I would like a BD of the Keira Knightley version that was out in HD DVD but not BD.
