Warner Home Video has announced the Blu-ray release of 'Natural Born Killers: Director's Cut' for August 25. No specs have been released, but you can expect a 1080p VC-1 video encode and Dolby TrueHD audio. This release will include a new high-def introduction from director Oliver Stone and a 44-page booklet on the film's production.
Also included will be a new featurette titled "NBK Evolution: How Would It All Go Down Now?," illustrating how current communication technology would impact the film if it were made today.
'Natural Born Killers' had already been published on Blu-ray in June 2008, but that release only included the theatrical cut, which Oliver Stone had to perform at the time in order to secure an "R" rating by the MPAA. The director's cut had been released before on DVD only by a different studio, and it contains about four more minutes of footage, mostly graphic violence.
Extras for this release include:
Disc 1
- Introduction by Oliver Stone (New Intro, in HD)
- Commentary by director Oliver Stone (included in 2008 Theatrical Cut BD)
Disc 2
- NBK Evolution: How Would It All Go Down Now? – New documentary providing a look at how the film might be different if today's technology advancements were available (in HD)
- Chaos Rising: The Storm Around Natural Born Killers - Shocking ‘making-of' documentary about the storm of controversy surrounding the film (previously only available on Warner Theatrical Cut DVD)
- Deleted scenes with optional commentary by Oliver Stone (included in 2008 Theatrical Cut BD)
- The Desert
- Steven Wright
- The Courtroom
- The Hun Brothers
- The Drive-In
- Denis Leary
- Alternate Ending with introduction by Oliver Stone (included in 2008 Theatrical Cut BD)
- Charlie Rose Interview – Charlie Rose interviews Oliver Stone on the making of this violent film (included in 2008 Theatrical Cut BD)
- NBK Director's Cut Trailer (previously only available on Lionsgate Director's Cut DVD)

I think a more suitable for Natural Born Killers these days would be Milked to Death. I would be interested in knowing how many times it has been released in the various formats over the years. |

hc666; As long as there's a director's cut available on DVD it's a sure bet it will come to Blu-ray as well.

This is one of the few movies where I feel the theatrical version is better. The extra 4 minutes, is just a short courtroom scene with Ashley Judd and some alternate takes. Think I'll pass on this one and just keep the one I have. |

Was there any compelling reason why the theatrical version had to be released so soon that it couldn't wait for this version to be on the same disc? It wasn't released very long ago, so they obviously had the director's cut release planned before the theatrical version even hit the market. This is pretty stupid. |

Glad I waited. (Unfortunately, a 44 page booklet hints at another digibook... I guess the DC will sway me to get it finally, although if they put it in some big honking box, forget it, will stick with the DVD.)
(Edit: I suppose one of the reasons this wasn't on the first release is that they probably crammed that one on a 25GB disc. No telling whether they will do the same with this, since they are still doing that from time to time. So, I guess my usual "get it right, WB" applies here as well.) |

Very interesting news indeed... Glad to hear that Warner finally has the Director's Cut rights. I have the DC on laserdisc & watched it not too long ago, thus why I haven't bought the current digibook. But I think I'll pick this one up, especially if it includes both cuts! |

I love the movie, but my rule for BLU is no double dipping at all. If you look back you can see which studio that does it the most, and in severly cases it is just new packaging. so far now no movie on 25GB disc and no movie in 1080i.
It is not always about the price, as I have approx.. 300 BLU's so far, but with so many more movies that can be released, why are they redoing one's that are out within 1 year to 18 months after release, when they could be working on the 1000's of one that are not out yet. |

I hadn't expected this so soon and from Warner. I'll be trading in my digibook for this one. NBK is the Clockwork Orange of the 90's. |
