Not a week since the release of 'Star Trek: Original Motion Picture Collection' and 'Star Trek: Motion Picture Trilogy', these Blu-ray movie sets have dropped in price at Amazon to $69.99 and $32.99, respectively, making them just about eleven dollars per movie. There is no information about how long these prices will last, so anyone interested should order now.
It has been speculated that these prices are a reaction to a previous sale on those titles at Fry's Electronics and Best Buy. At any rate, this is good news for those who still hadn't bought those sets, but not for those who had ordered weeks or days ago, especially considering that Amazon abandoned its post-order price guarantee in September 2008.
That's a nice price, but it doesn't beat the $43.70 from DVDEmpire I got for the movie collection. Yeah it's not an Ultimate boxset, but Paramount never releases Trek cheap while it's popular. The ST: First Contact initial release was still going for $24.99 for 4 years before the SE came out. We might see a Price drop again when the reboot hits blu, but then it's gonna be 2-3 years before they go cheap again.
ehh, you would have to pay ME those prices to watch these movies. I will NEVER understand the fascination with Star Trek. But to all the Trekkies out there, I'm glad these prices will work for you!
yeah but those low scores came from people who did not see this collection. Take a look at the dates and you will see about a 90% positive reaction since the release date and from those who have purchased them. I bought them on the day they were released and I think they look fantastic and sound amazing. Now that they are about $11 each why would you not buy them.
Yeah I agree with dolpinc, those reviews are from people who never had the boxsets. They're the ham and eggers who watch day baseball, and want everything for $15.00 I got the boxset and they look great on my 40-42" tvs.
I paid $109 CAD for the six pack and it was worth every penny!! I've fallen in love with these films again. Even the fifth one (although the weakest) is a lot better than I remember. The transfers are superb. Naysayers have been proven wrong across the board on this one!! Buy it today, you won't regret it
In Europe where the set came out early, everybody liked it. In the US about 40 Amazon 'fans' blasted the collection before they saw it based on stupidity and ignorance and the 'belief' that they were getting ripped off with the theatrical cuts and an over use of DNR. I never prefered the directors re-'vision' with a few effect tweaks and minor nips and tucks that had all the charm of plastic surgery. It looks and sounds great. Best Buy price matched the Amazon price and gave me a refund on Sunday for the Collection bought on tuesday.
WoW! We just on heck of a quake here in Los Angeles. 5.0 and I sprang from my computer to my couch and watched my flat screens danced but now all's OK except my nerves. Now for some Star Trek.
It really is nice...http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/DVDReviews45/star_trek_motion_picture_trilogy_blu-ray.htm
screen caps tell the story
Got it at Fry's for $59.99. Was going to pass on this set and wait for the extended cuts but for $10 a movie I couldn't pass that up. Finished TMP and saw a few poor scenes but considering the age of the source I can't complain.
I just bought the trilogy last weekend at Wal-mart for 39.99 +tax. I guess I could have saved a few bucks on Amazon, but it was worth it to be able to take it home and watch Wrath of Khan right away. In my opinion, the trilogy set contains the best Trek movies in the series, with the exception of Undiscovered Country. I was happy to see some good supplemental material on these Blus too.
You know when ever I read reviews on a product I am interested in buying (BD movies being #1) and the reviewer 1) has not seen the product in question 2) starts going off on DNR, original release, directors cut, santa not real, whatever I just skip over it and buy the BD anyway and I have always been happy with the purchase. WAY to many haters out there.
