Exclusive News: Immortal Beloved Special Features

Posted June 20, 2007 08:10 AM by Josh Dreuth

Sony Pictures As promised, we have some exclusive news on the upcoming Blu-ray title 'Immortal Beloved' in celebration of the one year anniversary of Blu-ray. The title, due to be released August 21st, will make use of Blu-ray's storage capability and feature all three language tracks (English, French, and German) in lossless TrueHD. For those of you who have 2.35 screen capability, there will be a special feature that allows you to adjust the position of the English subs into the frame. Previous releases had featured up to two lossless audio tracks, but this will be the first time that a feature includes three and all in stunning TrueHD. The subtitle feature is for people using home projectors with 2.35 screen capability. These setups cut off the top and bottom black bars of 2.35:1 content to replicate a theatrical presentation. This would, unfortunately, cut off the subtitles as well. This new feature, presented for the first time, will allow the position of the subtitles to be moved into frame so that they will not be cut off. The subtitle feature, like many others, was requested by users on web forums and read by Sony representatives. They took these ideas back to the right people and got them implemented into new discs. Blu-ray is your format, and if you have an idea on how it can be improved, visit our Insider's Thread in our Forum to make a suggestion.

A useful feature that hopefully will become the standard.

on a scale of 1 - 10, (10 being best) this just manages to nudge the 1..

great idea, but what about some title news? like big titles...that people want to see....willingly

I'm not so sure this is the " Big " news for today. It's about special features on a title already announced.

"Wednesday: Exclusive News on an Upcoming Blu-ray Title"

The problem is everyone assumed it was a previously unannounced title.

I think it's great that Sony is so committed to delivering a quality product. Lossless audio in 3 different languages and the 2.35:1 subtitle feature show that they are determined to make Blu-ray absolutely the best format it can be.

Believe it or not, when companies make HUGE announcements, they like to do it officially, via a press release (which is public to everyone). This is a piece of news that no one else knew about - until now. I'm sorry some of you are disappointed, but I never hyped it to be more than it was.

By announcing exclusive news for the B-Day of Blu-Ray and doing nothing in the forums to reduce people's expectations of an unannounced title you really should have been expecting some sort of backlash. I had a feeling I was going to end up disappointed today.

That's a pretty cool feature and it's great that Blu-Ray.com got some exclusive news for a change...regardless of the magnitude of the announcement. I think folks should be a bit more appreciative.

"Believe it or not, when companies make HUGE announcements, they like to do it officially, via a press release"

And in future this is what people should wait for. Good news that the Disney animated titles are coming to Blu-ray next year.

Now, where is that Fox/MGM announcement?

This is sad. If you're going to say "Exclusive announcement" on a certain day, you need to make sure that it's going to be worth a fart. Otherwise you loose all credibility. C'mon, "Immortal Beloved"? WTF

exactly Teacher_man99 !!! this is stupid to make such a big deal about the movie "immortal beloved" i dont get it.

This news should be rated -10

Yeah, I'm glad we get the feature, that's nice and all. The BD+ announcement would have been a heck of a lot more exclusive than this however. People want more movies, some serious combat on the title wars. Personally, I could care less about lossless True HD for other languages (must be the Amercian in me, ugh how bad). Oh well, there must be some other big news coming soon, like the Blockbuster and BD+ announcements this week. Those were pretty damn sweet.

While we may all see a tad ungrateful, you have to sit back and look at the information you just presented. When you heard this did you say to yourself "OMG that is awesome!" or was it more "Hmmm. That's kind of interesting, I suppose"?

While techically interesting, did this justify any kind of advance coverage of the 'Wednesday: Exclusive News on an Upcoming Blu-ray Title' variety. Of course not. It warrants a news item, yes, but just report these kinds of things as you get them. Hopefully the HD DVD crowd might miss this, but if they pick up on it they will use it as a piece of flame-bait on AVMS - given what they've been through this week you could hardly blame them.

What this does do is cause people to dismiss any 'nudge, nudge, wink, wink' stuff from you in future as likely to be just another bit of audio tweaking or the ability to change subtitle colours.

Hopefully you will understand why people have been underwhelmed and not take it as a load of whinging from a bunch of ungrateful barstools.

Anyway, not a big deal, let's just enjoy all the other fantastic developments this week.

And I'm sure those Fox announcements will come soon (without countdown trailers)!

Agreed... no more "big announcements" that are not really big announcements.
