No Face of the Enemy in Battlestar Galactica?

Posted May 28, 2009 01:43 PM by Juan Calonge

Universal Studios When we listed the special features for the upcoming 'Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series' Blu-ray set, some forum members pointed out that the extras list made no mention of 'The Face of the Enemy'. Indeed, it seems that this series of ten webisodes will be absent from the Blu-ray set.

When contacted about this, Universal Studios Home Entertainment gave the following response: "Because 'Battlestar Galactica' has such loyal and passionate fans, we include as much bonus content as possible to enhance each DVD release. Sometimes, however, legal clearances, timing issues, disc capacity or other issues prevent existing material from being included."

The website who posted this (gay-themed blog AfterElton.com) speculates that this omission might have something to do with the disclosure of a character's sexuality during the webisodes. Note that the link below contains spoilers.

I'm with Bondfooll. If I'm dishing out that much green I better be getting the whole frakin' thing.

What a load of crap. If you string all those webisodes together they're almost a full episode's worth of story left out. It sheds a lot of light on Gaeta's motivation for treason and his efforts against collaboration. It's a vital part of the story! How can they just leave it out?!? I agree, a "complete" set, for that price should have everything. And if it was going to leave something out, don't leave out a whole episode's worth of actual story. How stupid! I can't believe that. Keep your Cylon action figure, and give us the WHOLE story!

The whole "outing" a character assumption is silly...Admiral Cain was outed in the Razor movie and it is included.

I thought this was Battlestar "The Complete Series". If Universal wants me to drop $245 bones on this boxset, can't you just provide the "complete" series? Even if you provide a way for boxset owners to add the webisodes later, I want the complete Battlestar, ya know?

Come on Universal, your loyal Blu-ray fans expect much more from you!!

Hope this is an oversight that gets corrected before the release date, like INSIDE MAN' defect...

If nothing else, throw 'em on a separate Blu-Ray Disc as a "Bonus", put it in a cardboard sleeve and attach it to the outside of the package under the shrink-wrap. Certainly not my preferred resolution, but if that's the only way to resolve the issue, DO IT. Leaving out material that's that vital is unacceptable. I don't consider "the Face of the Enemy", or "The Resistance" webisodes to be "Bonus Material". They're part of the story. They HAVE to be in there, certainly before any other bonus stuff. What a horrible decision.

I haven't seen any episodes of this show, but I am interested in getting the whole series, but this decision makes me hesitate big time...

I just looked at those webisodes again (had them downloaded via iTunes), all together, they're over 36 minutes. Not quite a full episode but darn close. And they're good. They REALLY need to be in there. Not sure if I would not buy the set because of it... but will be less happy with it for sure.

Damn!!!! When ever I see something about Battlestar Galactica here I'm hoping it's going to be about the original 70's show being released to blu-ray. Oh well, hopefully one day it will be released.

I'm surprised at the comments here. Shouldn't we be more upset that this set comes out before "The Plan" is even released. Webisodes or not, this collection will not be the "complete" Battlestar

Will the mini-series be included in this set? I haven't ever seen any BSG and would like to see it all from the beginning - do you need to see the mini-series to understand it?

Definitely going to hold out now.....There is no way I'm buying this without 'The Face of the Enemy' or 'The Plan'. Take out some of the other extras if there isn't room to fit them in. Although I still can't understand why you couldn't include these on an extra disc if that is the case. This set is NOT the complete series in my book.

@deado:

Nah, they're just going to have a commentary track for the MiniSeries, but not the actual episode... Check the link above with the list of the details for the box set for more info on what's included on all 20 discs.

@everyone else: Get over it. The Plan will NOT be included. The same way that the Stargate SG-1 "complete series" didn't include Ark of Truth -OR- Continuum. If they have legal problems getting contracts put together for the Webisodes, then there's nothing that can change that now. It's not ideal, but that's how it is. Deal with it.

I'll buy this set when it is actually complete and therefore worth the price.

Part 1 & 2 of the mini series IS included!!!!!!

They will most likly put the FE on the Plan Bluray but it is just dumb not to add it. The plot goes to way Gatea went 'bad'.

I'm a little disappointed but frankly I can live without them. and I think AfterElton.com is reading a little too much into this. After all the issues BSG has touched on I don't think they would shy away like that.
