UK Gets Watchmen Theatrical Cut Only

Paramount Home Entertainment has announced the release of 'Watchmen' on Blu-ray in the United Kingdom on July 27. Unlike the US edition from Warner –which will only feature the 186-minute director's cut of the movie-, the UK version will only include the 162-minute theatrical cut. Bonus materials also will be different. The release will consist of two BDs plus one DVD with a digital copy.
As Paramount handles the European home video release of this title, it is likely that the releases in other countries will be similar.

Shame but no supprise. They released the Theatrical Cuts of star trek on blu-ray with no directors cuts so paramount obviously want to screw its customers as much as possible.
As much as I know paramout will do a better job PQ wise and 24bit lossless audio I am debaiting the warner edition since they are doing an directors cut first time. |

Nobody knows yet if the director's cut will be any "better" (subjective as always) than the theatrical. More is not always better, particularly if the added shots throw off the pacing. So look at it this way: now you have a choice. |

Well looks like a US Import then for us in the UK then.
I will not be buying the inferior UK version then. |

Probably because the book in the UK doesn't have the same status as it does in the US -
shame though - in that case i guess I should go and buy "tales of the black freighter" - i was
waiting to get the directors cut with it all intertwined. Any thoughts as to whether this will be
included in the UK version or not? |

To wakedux: Really? I'm surprised the book isn't more revered in the UK then it is here... |

I have family in the States - everyone i spoke to was passionate about the novel (as am I and have been since its release).
I got very excited last year when I heard about it. All my British friends said "watch-what, watch-who, whatever!" |

The book is revered in the UK. This is just another example of the US studios doing what they do best. Looking out for the US while the rest of the world looks on wistfully. Probably get the DC at a later date as it is locked in the US, but why can we not have it now? |

So, is this we won't get it now or won't get it ever? I gotta admit one of the points of blu-rays originally was no region locks, well thats what I read, and now they make USA exclusive Director's Cuts, region lock it and give us the theatrical version. |

One of the points of HD DVD was no region locks - Blu-ray has always had region locks, just some studios don't enforce them that much. Luckily for you, WB never enforces region locking, so you will have the option of importing the US director's cut of Watchmen if you so choose. |

Well, HD DVD specifically reserved the option to add region locking later on. If HD DVD had won, it might have introduced region locks by now. |

I'll wait to see the response to the the director cut before purchase. There are some theatrical cuts of movies I prefer to the director cut. |

I guess it is safe to say that UK Blu-rayers won't get "The End Is Nigh" parts one and two either... I actually liked the first game! |

"WB never enforces region locking" - is that true? Are you sure?
My brother lives in Nevada and I'm going next week, does that apply to all Warner Brother US titles? Where can I find the answer to this VERY IMPORTANT REVELATION! |

Personally, for me, Watchmen was already far too long. I'm quite glad Paramount have decided to release this in Theatrical form in the UK, as Warner had basically given people no choice about which version they get on Blu-ray (DVD owners get to choose). So it's a thumbs fully up from me! |

The director's cut STILL doesn't have the Black Freighter story included... that's being saved for a double dip Ultimate release. At least according to Snyder and Warner. |

Kinda sucks there isn't a version that has both. Right now its a dicey decision which to buy. So I guess I'll watch both before buying... see which is the better. |

@ neo_reloaded
So I can still buy this and watch it on my European PS3? I only ask because on this website when I searched it it says it's Region A, but on some Blus it says Region Free. I'm pretty confused now, can anyone help? |

That's a damned shame for our blu-ray brothers and sisters across the Atlantic. |
