Blue Underground has announced that they will bring the controversial horror film 'The New York Ripper' to Blu-ray on September 29th, day-and-date with the DVD release. Video will be presented in 2.35:1 1080p VC-1 accompanied by both 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio and 7.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtracks.
Hey guys, my avatar picture is from this film. Never in a million years thought this would be announced so soon. I hope you all get to hear news about your favorite films coming to blu-ray. This has made my weekend. Thank you Blue Underground.
Not one of Fulci's better films..it's the one with the killer with the stupid donald duck voice..i find the film quite bizarre at times, especially the cafe/restaurant scene which is almost something out of a porno! they would have been better off releasing The Beyond or Zombie 2 (zombie flesh eaters)
I don't understand why Blue Underground insists on including both 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio and 7.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtracks. That's a waste of space, and even worse in BU's case, they've been leaving original sound mixes off of their releases and yet including redundant lossless remixed soundtracks.
There are tons of Blue Underground catalog stuff I would like to see come out before this, like SUSPIRIA! That being said, I'm glad they are at least frequently putting stuff out. It's odd they are re releasing this on DVD already considering they just did so about 18 months ago.
Its a tough and pretty unpleasant film and I'm glad to see it on Blu but I really hope Blue Underground do more than transfer their DVD issue as, like its Anchor Bay predecessor, it has a scene in the wrong place. There's a very good English friendly DVD from AWE in Scandinavia that is correctly sequenced and has some decent extras
So ture about the audio on the BU releases. It would be better to just pick one HD soundtrack and also have the original sound mix. This is one reason why I'm keeping my BU DVDs for the original sound mixes.
Anyway, great to have this goofy Fulci flick on BD.
The listing is up for this on Blue Underground's website (http://www.blue-underground.com/product.php?product=177), and low and behold, the original mono is offered as a viewing option after all! Kudos to Blue Underground for becoming just as purist regarding the sound of their releases as they have been with their film-like High Definition video transfers!
