Happy Birthday Blu-ray!

Posted June 20, 2009 09:29 AM by Josh Dreuth

Blu-ray Disc Three years ago today, the first Blu-ray titles were released into the wild, marking the beginning of the Blu-ray revolution. While the format was slow out of the gate, it quickly picked up momentum as consumers realized the benefits of high definition over standard DVD. Those of you who proudly display a copy of 'Terminator', 'Underworld Evolution', or 'Hitch' in your collection can claim ownership of a piece of Blu-ray history. While the format has come a long way, there is still a long way to go.

As Sony has recently shown us, with their MovieIQ real-time film database, the advantages of BD-Java and BD-Live, and how they allow the Blu-ray format to continuously evolve to consumer demands. This not only allows Blu-ray to be viable high definition delivery system now, but also allows it to remain a relevant format well into the future.

So call a bunch of friends and family over to your house, put in your favorite Blu-ray title, and join us as we wish Blu-ray a very Happy Birthday!

While I expected the newer movies to look incredible on Blu Ray, the big surprise was how amazing older movies such as Dog Day Afternoon, The Searchers and Casablanca look and judging by reports, we ain't seen nothing until Gone With The Wind and The Wizard of Oz come out later this year. It's time for Spielberg to get his act together and get Jaws, E.T. and Schindler's list out on Blu Ray.

Happy Birthday Blu-Ray! It feels good knowing that I backed up the winning HD format since the PS3 launch. I plan to enjoy many more years of Blu-Ray in the future.

According to this very web site, Underworld: Evolution, was released in Canada on June 6, 2006. Were there earlier releases in other countries too?

It's awesome knowing we are actualy part of history. I'm proud to say I've been supporting Blu-ray for a solid year plus. I just knew Blu-ray was gonna win. I had no doubts. I had so many people around claim it was a dead format. Little do they know it has become bigger then DVD when it first came out. I have Underworld so I have that to go for it. Now I have 73 strong titles, and on July 7th I will have 74, when Knowing comes out. I'll be renting Push ot see if I want it.

Happy Birthday!

I can't wait to see MovieIQ!

I own all of those Blu-rays.. well, sorta.. I just sold "Hitch" to a buddy of mine. I even own the ones with the old school Blu-ray cases that are no longer made, the ones without flip locks! I am now getting close to owning 300 Blu-rays with many more to come!
