Wallace and Gromit Shorts Coming to Blu-ray

Share
Posted July 6, 2009 06:37 AM by Juan Calonge

Blu-ray MoviesOur favorite English clay-made inventor/cheese connoisseur and his very resourceful pet dog are stop-motioning their way onto BD. Hit Entertainment, which specializes in TV products for children, is entering the Blu-ray arena with the release of 'Wallace & Gromit: The Complete Collection' on September 22.

The disc will include all four Wallace and Gromit shorts: "A Grand Day Out", "The Wrong Trousers", "A Close Shave" and "A Matter of Loaf and Death". There is no information on technical specifications or special features at this time.

The original aspect ratio of the first three shorts is 1.33:1, whereas "A Matter of Loaf and Death" is 1.78:1. Hopefully Hit Entertainment will respect the respective original aspect ratios, unlike what they did with the Wallace and Gromit spinoff 'Shaun the Sheep', which is cropped to 1.33:1 in the US DVDs.

It might be noted that this is not really a complete collection, as it lacks the only feature film starring these two characters: 'Wallace and Gromit in: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit'. However, the rights for that movie belong to Dreamworks Animation. Similarly, no mention is made of the "Cracking Contraptions" webshorts.

Awesome! Can't wait to get my hands on this! But you're right, we still need Were-Rabbit and Flushed Away on Blu-ray!

great news,
now they only need to announce the Curse of the Were-Rabbit.

Great news - I've been hoping these would show up on BD for some time. However, given that they were made for British television and were therefore film at 25 frames per second, I'm a little concerned as to how these will be treated for a US release.

I'm hoping it'll include the Cracking Contraptions shorts but the deal breaker will be whether Happy Birthday and How Much Is That Doggy In The Window? will be on the soundtrack of The Wrong Trousers instead of the substitutions made on the DVD issues

Always liked these. If it includes extras from the DVD, I'm in.

Yeah I'll take Were-Rabbitt too. Unfortunately, it looks like Dreamworks finds little value in releasing its catalog titles to Blu-ray, like Shark Tale or Prince of Egypt, Shrek 1-2 or the others.

?

My DVD has "How Much is That Doggy?" and "Happy Birthday". The old CBS Video one in the green box.

I've seen A Matter of Loaf & Death when it was released over here, personally I taught it looked great but I was holding out for a boxset. Yipee, good things come to those who wait!

YEEEEEES! I will definitely pick these up on day 1! These 3 short films are great and very back in the day, my little brother and I grew up watching these short films~Especially The Wrong Trousers!

Can't wait to get these shorts. They should look great in HD, even the low budget Grand Day Out. I'll be able to finally see Loaf and Death. Hopefully, Were-Rabbit and Chicken Run will come out soon too. Like I said before, 2009 is the best year so far for classics on Blu.

I would love some cheese with that. I'm very happy this is coming to blu ray, and to think of it in 1080p on a big projection screen.
