Exorcist Blu-ray Coming in 2010 with Both Cuts

Posted August 24, 2009 06:24 AM by Juan Calonge

Warner Bros. Home Media Magazine publisher and editorial director, T.K. Arnold, has revealed in his blog that William Friedkin's 'The Exorcist' will be released on Blu-ray "in time for Halloween 2010". This edition will feature a new restoration, including both the 1973 theatrical version and the "version you've never seen" from 2000.

The transfers were completed in July, under the supervision of Friedkin and director of photography Owen Roizman, who had had opposing views early this year over Friedkin's new color-timing of 'The French Connection' for its Blu-ray release.

As we reported earlier this month, 'The Exorcist' was one of the titles, along with 'Caddyshack' and 'Doctor Zhivago' to stop being sold on DVD from September 4 to bolster demand for the upcoming Blu-ray editions.

Good news about Roizman's involvement. Should be the definitive edition.

Pity about the long wait, though.

That is good that they will have both editions. Don't need people to start 3500 threads on their childhood is ruined.

Halloween eh.... wait.... 2010!!!!! Not cool. I'm glad they are coming out with both editions now but come on. We shouldn't have to wait that long. This is one of my wanted titles in September I was going to buy! At least make a Exorcist Anthology Boxset for BD like they did for DVD. And yes I do know the sequels/prequels weren't great but if would make up for the pathetic long wait.

thedarkangel1975 says Don't need people to start 3500 threads on their childhood is ruined.

My childhood wouldn't be ruined if they left out the orginal theatrical verson. I stood in line more than once when it first came out and got the crap scrared out of me each time, but to be honest, I actually like the 2000 version better.

I don't mind waiting a year longer if it means it'll receive a far superior restoration. There are plenty of releases up until that point to keep me occupied.

The transfers were completed in July. Interesting, that would NOT explain the delay haha.

This is good news indeed, despite the delay. I just hope Friedkin listened to someone other than his own ego when restoring this one.

Well, I can deal with the wait. My DVD copies are there if I feel the need to watch it again before the blu release. I'm just happy they're doing this the way they should and including both versions. This'll be the definitive release of The Exorcist for a long time to come.
