Terminator Salvation Blu-ray Will Get R-rated Cut

Posted August 27, 2009 06:17 AM by Juan Calonge

Warner Bros. The Blu-ray release of 'Terminator Salvation' hasn't been officially announced, but the latest bulletin of the Motion Pictures Association of America includes among the film it has rated a new version of 'Terminator Salvation', which is rated R "for some violence and brief nudity".

When the movie was about to open theatrically, there was some controversy as to what was cut from the movie to achieve a PG-13 rating. In January 2009, McG boldly proclaimed, "we don't care about the rating". But in May, in an interview with Sci-fi Wire, McG admitted that he had shot an R movie, but he cut one shot "of the Marcus character stabbing a screwdriver through the shoulder of one of these thugs" to warrant a PG-13 rating, because "that would be ridiculous to make it tough for kids to go see this movie."

There was also a topless scene of Moon Bloodgood that McG, even though he thought it was "beautiful", it was deemed gratuitous and hence dropped from the film. Obviously, not too gratuitous for home video.

Great news !

It's very nice to have the Director's Cut !

Day 1 for me ! Come on Warner, all we want now is the release date

I enjoyed this one and I'm glad to hear we're getting an R-rated cut as well. It was easy to guess where some of the cuts were made in the film. Parts of it definitely felt chopped up.

The fact that Blair Williams made love to Marcus Wright now explains why she helped him escape. That scene was so badly edited out that it felt like they just skipped part of the movie. The scene change was quite jarring.

I don't understand how they can destroy a movie just so kids can see it. Sure they got the kids, but you drove away the adults in the process.

This is the version we should have seen at the cinema. I am now looking forward to finaly seeing the complete movie on Blu-ray.

Sounds like it will be released in November - at least in the UK.
Had to watch this movie in the second row in this huge cinema, can't wait to watch it properly in my living room

I hate this trend to cut a film to "lower a rating" so kids can enter. Hum....it's TERMINATOR for Christ Sakes...kids shouldn't go to that movie in the first place.

Yeah please stop appealing to kids when it comes to the rating most of them goof off talk and don't even pay attention to the movie ruining the experiance for others! So sick of hearing director's do this, the rest of them are R-rated and did well, no good reason to change that!

Oh lord! Gratuitious nudity? Seriously people, this is what's wrong with America... we're ashamed of sex (something people do every day... AND it's a natural part of life), but everyone's ok with copious amounts of violence? Seriously, lets get a grip here....

Yay, extra boobage

Don't know if the US and UK releases will be different because US is Warner and UK is Sony.

Probably not enough to save this movie. Salvation was a disappointment and easily the worst of the four Terminator films.
