Blu-ray Gets Marketing Push in the UK

Posted September 8, 2009 05:47 AM by Juan Calonge

Blu-ray Movies The British Video Association (BVA) is launching a £1 million ($1.6 million) campaign aimed at educating consumers about the benefits of the Blu-ray and its releases ahead of the holiday season. The campaign is supported by Sony, Fox, Universal, Disney and Warner, and aimed at HD-ready TV users, PS3 Owners and satellite HDTV subscribers.

The campaign will launch with TV advertising spots across all major British television channels from November and throughout December, reaching 40 million viewers at least once. Titles promoted will include 'Terminator Salvation' from Sony, 'Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs' from Fox, 'Inglourious Basterds' from Universal, 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' from Disney and 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' from Warner.

The campaign will focus on three key consumer groups: owners of HD-ready TVs who aren't making the most of their technology (the majority of HDTV owners in western Europe don't receive any kind of high-definition broadcast), satellite HDTV subscribers, and PS3 users who are not using the Blu-ray capabilities of their console.

The Blu-ray-centered website of the BVA, 'Blu-ray Revolution', will also get a facelift.

BVA director general Lavinia Carey heralds Blu-ray as being the best way to enjoy films at home. "Our goal is to boost understanding of the benefits of Blu-ray in the run up to Christmas, really hitting the message home that Blu-ray is the format of the future," Carey said.

Tru blu give it time. I'm sure it'll get to your area of the globe. But in regards for Blu-ray this is good news.

Where's Paramount (or do they not distribute in the UK)?

Paramount missing from the list stuck out to me as well wallendo... And with Star Trek and TF2 coming to Blu in November I'd have thought they would have been all over his campaign... hopefully it is a typo!!!

Gladiator on Blu-ray got its own 30 second commercial on TV. - Neil_Luv's_BLU

Yeah i know but using Gladiator as an example of Blu Rays quality is ironic as it's one of the worst HD transfers i've seen.Anyone new to BD buying this to experience it's 'amazing 1080 p HD picture' is gonna think Blu Ray is a joke when we all know it aint.
Very unfortunate.

Let's hope they see fit to support the TV promotions with some offers on discs to tempt those not already Blu to turn Blu and those of us who are the chance to take advantage of some nice priced discs.

tru blu you're right about that. They don't do much (if any) advertising for blu-ray in Australia. That needs to change.
