Slight Delay for Three Criterion BDs (Update)

Posted September 16, 2009 07:36 AM by Juan Calonge

CriterionRetailers have been alerted that three upcoming Blu-ray titles from Criterion will delayed one or two weeks. 'Monsoon Wedding', initially announced for October 13, will street on October 20. In turn, 'Howards End' and 'Wings of Desire', previously slated for October 20, will be available on November 3.

According to Criterion's Facebook page the date change is "due to delays in manufacturing our custom Blu-ray cases". It also affects the DVD releases of 'Monsoon Wedding' and 'Wings of Desire' ('Howards End' had been released on DVD in 2005).

The four titles scheduled for release September 22 ('Pierrot le fou', 'The Complete Monterey Pop Festival', 'Monterey Pop' and 'Jimi Plays Monterey & Shake! Otis at Monterey') don't change dates. Likewise, 'Gomorrah' is still scheduled for November 24.

Since we were only getting "Gomorrah" in November, this is probably not going to bother too many people.

Now, what bothers too many people is the delay of their December announcements. Come on, Criterion, it's the sixteenth already!

Hopefully the delays are due to the work being done on the discs and not a distribution or money issue. Eagerly anticipating what Howard's End will look like on BD!

Ugh, why Howard's End? Give me A Room with a View or The Remains of the Day.

This is actually excellent news, it will make october easier on my wallet, even without the criterion releases it's already stretching me quite thin.

When is the promised "Walkabout" being released Criterion?

@thegline: I emailed Criterion when Ran's scheduled release was canceled. They said there were some difficulties with licensing. Strange for licensing difficulties to pop up less than a month before release, but something happened. The guy said the release had been put off indefinitely, so we may never see it.
