Target BD Exclusives: Gremlins, Monsters vs Aliens Combo, Cheaper Wizard of Oz

According to promotional materials, Target has secured three very interesting Blu-ray exclusives which will hit the retailer's shelves next week: Joe Dante's 'Gremlins', which is not available anywhere else in the US; a 'Monsters vs. Aliens' BD/DVD combo edition; and a BD release of 'The Wizard of Oz' for only $34.99.
Detail views of the Target ad listing the Wizard of Oz, Gremlins and Monsters vs. Aliens exclusives.
Unlike other exclusive offers, this time there has been no official announcement, either by Target or the studios involved. It is only thanks to our eagle-eyed forum members that this has been brought to light.
'Gremlins' has an advertised price of $22.99. Note that Warner Home Video hasn't even announced this title, but it is coming up on Blu-ray on several territories: France on October 7, Canada on October 13, the United Kingdom on October 19, and Germany on October 23.
The 'Monsters vs Aliens' BD/DVD combo pack will sell for $24.99. Like the regular BD edition, it will include the short 'B.O.B.'s Big Break' and four pairs of 3-D glasses.
The Target release of 'The Wizard of Oz' shows a price of $34.99, whereas the cheapest price for the Ultimate Collector's Edition is about $51. Going from the picture of the case, it stands to reason that all or some of the collectibles from the UCE might have been dropped. There is no information at this stage about what actual disc extras the Target edition will include.
Thanks to forum members "Pfdfiredog" for breaking the news, and "musick" for posting the ad.

Amazing, great for Target of course, maybe not so great for those that can't get to those stores,
although Target is partnered online with Amazon.com. If Best Buy can do it, and WalMart can as well,
why not the other of the big 3. Exclusives are here to stay and will only get more intense as history
marches on. Definitely will be looking at Gremlins for sure. |

I don't like it. $22.99 for Gremlins is way to much and it's an exclusive so little to no chance for a sale price. |

adh56...It isn't like the Gremlins Blu-ray will only be at Target forever. It is just an exclusive time frame. We should see it for sale in other places in the coming months. You can either pay $22.99 and get Gremlins now or wait a few months and get it for cheaper. |

The Wizard Of Oz looks to be a DigiBook. I might bite if the disc content is the same as the UCE. Don't care about the collector's items in the full box (watch, crystals, etc.). If not, Amazon's price is now down to $44.99 for the UCE box. |

so... uh... I'm confused - the Target edition doesn't come with the nick nacks, but has all the video supplements including the six hour MGM documentary? |

Did they remove 'The Wizard Of Oz' Blu-ray from their website? I can't find it anywhere, even with a search.

Odd that there hasn't even been a press release about Gremlins yet... |

Yes, odd. Especially given that it's an Amblin title. Am interested to see if that indeed happens, or if this is another situation where an Amblin title gets "announced" without Steven's blessing and ends up not happening. |

I'll probably pick up Oz for my mom at that price. Not a great price, but certainly much better than the UCE price. |

Meckel - My mistake. You are correct. Didn't realize they were releasing the UCE on DVD, too. Thought it was Blu-ray only. |

Hopefully $22.99 for a catalog title is only the retail suggested price and not the actual price Target will be selling it at. Then again Target does not have a good track record on good prices for BD (except Black Friday). |

Hmmmm....34.99 for Wizard of Oz and one can get the entire box for 51.00 and the box set includes the 6 hour documentary on the History of MGM. I doubt that this release will have that, we'll see.....if not I'll stick with the box thanks. |

I will be picking up all three releases plus How I met your mother season 4 it will be expensive but I work at Target and get my employee discount so that helps. Its good to see that retailers are starting to carry exclusives when it comes to BD. |

I would prefer just the movie of WIZARD OF OZ, so if this is true, it's great news! I just want the awesome transfer. I didnt buy a Blu-ray player for trinkets, nick-nacks and watches. |

I was going to hold off on buying Monsters vs. Aliens until Black Friday, but I might have to bite on the combo pack at Target. |
