Warner to Re-release Goodfellas for 20th Anniversary

Share
Posted October 26, 2009 08:01 AM by Josh Dreuth

Warner Bros.Warner Home Video has announced that they will bring 'Goodfellas: 20th Anniversary Edition' to Blu-ray on February 16th as a digibook release. Originally released in 2007, this re-release will hopefully add a lossless soundtrack and fix the video error found in the previous release. Technical specs have not been announced at this time.

The digibook will feature 34 pages of film facts and pictures. Extras for this release include:
  • Commentary with Martin Scorsese
  • Commentary with ex-gangster Henry Hill and ex-FBI agent Edward McDonald
  • Public Enemies: The Golden Age of the Gangster Film
  • Cast and crew documentaries
  • Trailers
  • Four Warner Bros. mob-themed cartoons

Thank you Warner for double dipping.

damn i was hoping to see some deleted scenes this time around. not crazy about the four cartoons when that room can be used to give us more worthwhile extras. but it's the movie that counts and hopefully we'll get lossless and a better picture transfer

What was the video error in the one out now?

Poor quality first release and then a double dip with 'cartoons' ... What else would you expect from Warner Brothers?

I would also like to know what video error there is. Lossless would be nice this time around.

I'm looking forward to finally adding this to my collection. Glad I held off buying the previous version due to a low quality video transfer and lossy sound track. Now if they would go back and add loseless sound to other classics. (ahem Unforgiven, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, etc.)

Yeah, what was this "error"? I watched the blu-ray recently and it looked fine to me.

Appears there is a thin black line running down the screen in one scene and its on the negative itself so we wont be seeing it come off anytime soon.

No big deal, the transfer got good marks as it was: http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/560/goodfellas.html

Since this is one of my favorite movies of all time I will double dip. I just hope they really work on it and make the video quality great.

As jimmybobo mentioned, there is a black line that runs vertical down the screen in one scene that is a negative issue (likely a scratch during post processing). They need to digitally correct it to restore it to what was shot, rather than keep highlighting a processing error.

This is actually a double-dip I don't mind - the 5.1 Dolby track on the current GOODFELLAS disc sucks! Ranks right up there with the wreched 5.1 Dolby on the T3 Blu.

As long as it has a nice lossless audio, I will definitely double-dip. (I always felt that the current blu ray was half-assed...)

This was one of the first Blu-Rays I ever bought - and I'm just fine with it. No double dip for this Blu-Ray viewer.

Being as its one of my favorite pictures of all time, I'll get it if its cleaned up PQ wise & redone with a lossless track. I wont hold my breath... WB will give the say trash they did with the first BD. Please prove me wrong WB, & "unscrew" one of my favorite pictures.

Hate to double dip, but for lossless probably will have to....Movie is such a classic...

Will wait for the reviews on the upgrades before replacing my HDDVD copy. Lots of music used thruout the film, so a lossless track is welcome. IMO, 'GF' is the most absorbing & entertaining Scorcese film hands down.
