BBC Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring a number of Doctor
Who specials to Blu-ray on February 2nd, day-and-date with the DVD release.
These include the next Doctor Who special 'Doctor Who:
The Waters of Mars' and the 'Doctor Who: Two-
Part Finale'. Also available on that date will be a five-disc 'Doctor Who: Specials Collection'.
'Doctor Who: The Waters of Mars' will premier on December 19th on BBC
American. The two-part finale has yet to be scheduled, but should air sometime
over the holiday season.
The five-disc 'Doctor Who: Specials Collection' set will feature 'Doctor Who: The
Next Doctor' (not currently scheduled for individual Blu-ray release), 'Doctor Who: Planet of the Dead', 'Doctor Who: Waters of Mars'
and the 'Doctor Who: Two-Part Finale'.
Special features and technical specs have yet to be announced.

It is due for release January 11th over here in the UK... And yes, I got my pre-order in last week as soon as I became aware of its existence! I held of bying POTD on Blu in anticipation of this announcement!
I imagine that "The Next Doctor" will either be included on a DVD, or upscaled by the BBC for a Blu-ray, as it was the last episode to be shot on DigiBeta. From the "Planet of the Dead" onwards, all future episodes are being shot and produced entirely in HD! |

Anyone want a copy of POTD on BD ? Feel a bit cheated since I rushed out to get the first ever Doctor Who on Blu Ray. Am I right in thinking that "The Next Doctor" is only out on DVD on 2.0 ? |

You are indeed correct Tammy... BBC don't usually bequeath Doctor Who a 5.1 mix until a complete set is released (that is the way it has been with all the new series thus far).
Hopefully they will give The Next Doctor the DTS 5.1 treatment that POTD has already, and the other specials are sure to get on Blu-ray.
The only bone of contention with "TND" is the picture quality. It was of course the last episode of Dr Who to be produced in standard definition! |

I have seen 'The Next Doctor' and 'Planet of the Dead' and neither were up to standard storywise IMHO. I am looking forward to the 'Two-Part Finale' though and will definitely 1st day buy! |

BTW Josh and co. The two part finale actually bears the title "The End Of Time"... And sees the return of my favorite Dr Who nemesis! |

Jessica Hynes (Stephenson) Is also making a return playing a descendant of her Season 3 character "Joan Redfern"
Should be a wonderful and epic send off for David Tennant! |
