Blu-Con 2.0 Congress Today

Posted November 3, 2009 07:58 AM by Juan Calonge

Blu-ray Disc Today is the date when Blu-Con 2.0 (short for "The Second Congress for Blu-ray Innovation") is being held at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles. As we first reported in October, special keynotes will be given, notably by filmmaker Martin Scorsese; but there are other interesting forums and panel discussions, attended by studio senior executives and other industry representatives and analysts.

There will be two different themes for the morning and afternoon sessions: "Blu-ray Market Update" and "Blu-ray Coming Attractions."

Keynotes
  • "How Consumers Consume Entertainment;" by Mike Vitelli, Executive Vice President, Customer Operations Group, Best Buy
  • "How Blu-ray Impacts the Movie Experience;" by Martin Scorsese, filmmaker
  • "PS3: The Case for Co-existence;" by John Koller, Director of Marketing, Sony Computer Entertainment America
Forums and panel discussions
  • Blu-ray and The Digital Divide
  • Understanding the Blu-ray Consumer: The Latest Findings
  • BD-Live Forum: New Applications and Social Networks
  • Digital Copy: Blu-ray Goes Portable
  • Network Services: Building a Bridge to Blu-ray
  • Blu-ray Internationale: The Global Perspective
  • The New World of Blu-ray 3-D
For the full program and list of participants, see the official Blu-Con page.

Blu-Con has three objectives:
  • To demonstrate innovations and advancements in Blu-ray entertainment, while providing a platform for the widespread industry support for Blu-ray marketing and technology development.
  • To inform the media, analysts and members of the entertainment community about the latest market data and adoption rates for Blu-ray hardware and software.
  • To provide networking opportunities for members of the Blu-ray community; to bring together senior level Blu-ray representatives from Motion Pictures, Consumer Electronics, IT and Video Game industries.

I sure would love to hear about what they have to say in regards to "The New World of Blu-ray 3-D". I can already tell that 2010 is gonna be a great year for blu-ray.

Someone should tell Ron Sanders to release EVERY title with lossless audio. Including TV series'.

In addition, titles that do NOT contain a lossless track should be re-released WITH a lossless track and a FREE trade-in program should be offered.

I'd like to be at the Scorsese speech, stand up and yell "WHERE'S TAXI DRIVER? IT WAS PROMISED BACK IN FEBRUARY!!"

Not that he necessarily has anything to do with its delay

Sounds like an event I'd enjoy going to. Will the site be recording the some speeches? I'd love to hear Scorsese.
