Bonnie and Clyde Get Non-Digibook Release

Posted November 6, 2009 08:34 AM by Josh Dreuth

Warner Bros. Warner Home Video has announced that they will re-release 'Bonnie and Clyde' for Blu-ray on February 2nd in standard Blu-ray packaging. The original release was the first Warner title to be released in DigiBook packaging, though not the first Digibook title to be re-released in standard packaging. It is expected that both releases will feature the exact same discs.

Good news for all of us obsessed with standard cases. And I couldn't find any typos or errors in the article either so the first poster is off...

Good, now I might buy it.

This probably explains why they had this title (and a few others) at Costco (for 17.99). Those others are probably going to be making the transition fairly soon as well. (Falling Down, Shawshank Redemption, Cuckoo's Nest)

There are quite a few movies I will purchase right away if they would be re released without the digibook. I would have no problem paying the same price or more to not have those stupid book cases.

Josh, I think it's because you spelled digibook two different ways...Digibook and DigiBook...not really a major typo

Digibook should be banned, what a terrible way to package Blu-ray. There have been quite a few titles that I would buy day one but stay clear of because of the case. "North By Northwest" is my favorite movie of all time (ALL TIME) and I refuse to pick it up because of the digibook.

I don't understand where all this hate for digibooks come from. North By Northwest is fullyalives favorite movie of all time(ALL TIME)...and here he has a chance to see this film in his own home in 1080P...and he won't buy it because the case that it comes in is not a plastic blue case. What is it that some of you do with your blu-ray collections when you are not using them? My blu's sit on a shelf...and when I want to watch one I just take the disc out and set the case down. When the movie is over I pick the case back up and place the disc into it...and then the case goes back on the shelf. I find it hard to believe that these digibooks are damaging discs or for some reason falling apart when used by sane and sober adults. I have books that are over 100 years old with little or no spine damage...and I would be willing to bet that those books have been paged through more times then a blu-ray booklet. Grow up.

Gener, you got there before me, well said. I love the digibooks & got North By North West today, it oozes quality. Strange that fullyalive would prefer this classic to be presented in a cheap plastic box, and his favourite film of all time!! Ive never heard such stupidity. I'm constantly amazed by the mentality of certain people.

@ gener:

I treat all my stuff very carefully but most of all I treat my movie collection with utmost care. I watched 'Amadeus' just once and then put it back into the case. I never removed the extras disc from its casing but both casings simply fell out now after having been sitting on the shelf ever since!
These blu books are not by any means a safe way to keep your valuable discs. They may look good as long as they are shrink-wrapped but once you remove the shrink-wrap it is junk. They are, of course, an eye-catcher as they standing out on the shelf due to their size. That is probably the reason for their existence. But they are, I repeat, pure, unadulterated junk.

Why the hell release the exact same disc but with different packaging? Digibook is annoying but not worth re-releasing a title based solely on packaging. Do a new video/audio transfer, then re-release the title.
That is the true meaning of double-dipping. This release is simply stupid.

The packaging of the Digibooks is a gimmick. It's just something a little extra to spruce it up to get you to buy it. I'm not going to pay $25 for old catalog titles that are only that price because of a special book attached to the case. I hope Warner will start re-releasing the other Digibooks so I can finally go buy them.

I care more about the fact that this blu ray never came with an uncompressed audio track. Other than that, I've never had a problem with a digibook falling apart or spontaneously erupting in flames at the touch of my hands.

I love the digibooks, have several of them in my collection (North by Northwest being the latest -- day one upgrade -- along with Bonnie and Clyde, Dr Strangelove, 300, Amadeus and How the West Was Won) and have never had a problem with them. (Easy Rider will likely be picked up sooner rather than later.) I'm all for diversity in packaging as long as it's well-done. Personally I wish the studios would at least produce booklets concerning various aspects of a given title for insertion into the blue cases (rather than just slips of paper to promote other movies). Rather like what Criterion does or what the digibooks do, contentwise. It would just make the experience that much more interesting.

I'll actually probably still buy this in the digibook eventually. I did'nt think I would like digibooks until I got North By Northwest a couple of days ago. Now I don't see what all the complaining is about? I for sure like the digibooks much better than those stupid plastic eco cases that have the big holes in them. Almost everyone of those I get has damage to the cover art because of those holes!
