Rumor: Lord of the Rings BD in February 2010

After all the pre-announcements, delays and whatnot, everybody is allowed to be a little leery of any more unofficial information regarding the Blu-ray of The Lord of the Rings Motion Picture Trilogy. However, it must be noted that UK retailer The Hut has now it back up for preorder with a release date of February 8, 2010. So does its associate website SendIt.
No information is available as to which versions of the films or what special features will be included. If that release date sticks, that is.

I don't know if I should be excited or not. Last time I heard a "rumor" about LOTR I got really excited for nothing. Let's hope this is true. |

Most likely the theatricals - Peter Jackson's said again and again, even this past July at Comicon (via live video feed) that "the preferred" version (i.e. extended) won't be available on hi-def until THE HOBBITT comes out a year from now. |

Warner Brothers better not go cheap on these... give them the best encode / sound possible... no shortcuts. |

If they are not the extended versions, why bother? |

I'm sure they will. C'mon this is one of their more lucrative franchises ... |

Extendeds only for me as well. However, I'll netflix the theatricals and it's a good thing there'll be no late fees! |

I'm in the minority I know but give me the TE's. The EE's were way too long. Good but too long. I'd be plenty happy with the TE's. Bring it on Warner but like many are saying do a good job on the PQ & AQ. |

Definitely understand most preferring to wait for the EEs, but for me, if I can get at least a good year's viewing out of the TE versions I won't have any problem with paying for them. I hope that they change their minds and give us an ultimate release now, but I'm still in regardless as long as the price on my preorder on Amazon holds. Gotta say, at least in this case people will know how things are going to go unlike a lot of other cases, including from Warner Bros where they give you a release and then spring a double dip on you in six or eight months without any warning. That ticks me off. Here at least, you know when The Hobbit films are coming and know how long the wait will be for the next releases, so you can decide what you want to do with full knowledge of what is going on. Now how about making that standard policy studios? Either give us the best release up front, or tell us what the time frame is going to be for the SE, DC, UE, BMFUEFH, whatever so we can decide if we are happy with the little release, want to wait for the super version, or are willing to buy both given the contents and time frame. What a concept. |

It's been so long now I expect Extra Extended editions. I'm sure PJ could probably add another half an hour to each episode no problems. Just no more endings for ROTK, 52 was enough! |

Only getting these on EE (and hopefully there will be seamless branching on this as well). I will also probably wait a good year after they come out for the price to drop. |

Yea, I think it would be a little offensive to release the theatrical versions at this point. I mean, make a superdelux version later if you want, but don't try and make people buy six movies rather than three just so they can get the whole thing. |

Yes, I know this sounds snobbish, but I'm continually surprised at how many people DON'T consider the theatrical and extended versions to be separate entities entirely!! Entire story structures were changed, music was written or rewritten, and they are, quite simply, Different Versions of the Same Movie. Apart from a few things, I actually prefer the pace and flow of ROTK (Theatrical) to the EE. "More" doesn't always mean "Better." Sometimes it just means "Different!" AND IT'S ALL OKAY!! Haha. I'd buy the Theatricals on Day 1 (or at least wait to them to ship on Day 1). |

I think the whole delay was for them just to get the extended editions done. I would like an actual release date also. |
