Hope it's not another GLADIATOR treatment :/

I hope it doesnt get the Fight Club treatment ie. sub-par video and extras compared to the western release 8 months later.

So Vittorio still sticks to his unnecessary 2:1 Ratio, we also get no option to view the original version, and STILL no Hearts of Darkness doc
All in all a very poor announcement

Still a cropped, pan-n-scan presentation. No sale for me. The fact that there is a special feature trying to justify this just adds insult to injury. This was never the intended ratio.

I thought for sure we'd see a 30th anniversary edition by fall this year but nothing. Redux destroyed the flow of the original and I would wait until that version comes out, if ever.

I have to agree about Storaro. He wrecked the Last Emperor and wants to do the same with this. Why cannot the customers get what they want, after all it is us who pay!

Poor annoucement indeed. I hope more information comes around, cause this film deserves THE definitive edition, with all the possible bonus material AND the inclusion of Hearts of Darkness.

No buy for this boy unless:

Original aspect ratio

Both cuts of the movie

All bonuses from the Complete Dossier

A damn good transfer

Did ANYONE explain to Storaro that we have such thingamajigs as full-pixel HDTVs these days, or is he still cropping his compositions because of the preceived defects of CRTs?

Because he certainly sounds like he is.

He is a master cinematographer, and his intentions were right, circa 1999. Now he's an active hindrance to the enjoyment of his own art.

Why complain about the aspect ratio? the widescreen home video version has always been 2:1 and I'm guessing it always will. Anyway, can't wait for the US version which I'm sure will have both versions of the film.

"Now, there’s this rumor they’re going to retransfer Apocalypse Now at 1:2.35 — I will not do it. I will not do it. Because on a television it doesn’t work."

Vittorio Storaro in an interview with Filmmaker Magazine 06/08/2007 (http://filmmakermagazine.com/webexclusives/2007/06/storaro-talks-shop-by-jamie-stuart.php)

How will it not work on a television, Mr. Storaro? We have WIDESCREEN TELEVISIONS now!

It would feel like we were missing out if they crop the picture from the theatrical version, interesting that if Stanley was still alive he probably wouldn't let us have the original theatrical aspect ratio of his films... always wondered why my Kubrick dvd collection wasn't letter box, annoyed me no end !!

Why does this particular cinematographer seem to have such a major say in how 2 films he's photographed are released?? Is this usual? I'm assuming the directors don't disagree with him in this case..
