Newly-created label Cine-Excess (under the Brunel University's School of Arts Cult Film Archive, which has recently acquired rights to part of Roger Corman's film catalog), in conjunction with distributor Nouveaux Pictures, has announced the Blu-ray release of Dario Argento's giallo classic 'Suspiria' on January 18, 2010. Audio and video specifications and region coding are not known at this time.
Special features include:
Audio commentary by leading Dario Argento experts Alan Jones and Kim Newman
Fear At 400 Degrees: The Cine-Excess Of Suspiria: documentary featuring director Dario Argento and composer Claudio Simonetti
Suspiria Perspectives: featuring Claudio Simonetti, Norman J. Warren and Patricia McCormack
Underwhelming extras (by comparison to the AB limited edition DVD anyway), but hopefully Blue Underground is working on a domestic blu release. BTW, Suspiria is NOT a giallo, its a straight horror film (giallos are italian murder mysteries, whereas Suspiria is about a ballet school which is a front for a coven of witches).
GREAT news! The R2 DVD is not the best quality, and this is one of the films that will benefit the most from high def, where visuals and sound are everything. It will be interesting to know whether the Italian dub is included as well as the English dub. (I am assuming there is one, since it's an Italian film, though most Italian films from that time were shot without sound and overdubbed)
