Michael Jackson's This Is It Blu-ray Announced

Posted November 29, 2009 04:02 AM by Juan Calonge

Sony Pictures Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that it will release 'Michael Jackson's This Is It ', the movie documenting the late performer's rehearsals for a series of London concerts cancelled after Jackson's sudden passing, on Blu-ray on January 26, 2010. It will be presented in 1080p AVC video with a DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack.

Special features include:
  • Two making-of documentaries
  • Eight featurettes
  • All-new Smooth Criminal vignette (BD-exclusive)
  • Making Smooth Criminal featurette (BD-exclusive)
  • All-new Thriller vignette (BD-exclusive)
  • BD-Live:
    • movieIQ
    • 'This Is It' interactive playlist
Initially, the plan was for the movie documenting Michael Jackson's last rehearsals to come out on BD in December (see blu-ray.com, October 30), but the studio finally decided to stick to a more conventional release window.

I am so happy that this material made it to the cinemas and now, BD.
Really looking forward to it, though I've heard it's more like a behind the scenes than a concert. I'll get this anyway =)

I am a big fan of MJ for the longest time of my life. I seen This is It, and I am definitely will pick this up as soon it hit in stores.

I think the reason some features are BD exclusive because there are over 100 footage s during the time MJ was rehearsal-ed. So I guess was a great reason to place this on the disc since it can holds 50 GB than DVD which holds up to 8.5 GB.

There are DVD's that can holds up to 15GB but no movies in any retails are release with that kind of size.

Well, I'm getting the King of Pop Blu-ray, my third concert collections of BD after Destiny's Child: Live in ATL and Beyonce's Live Experience.

Saw this once in the theater and loved it. Definitely a high priority title for me. His dancing was still impressive. I love how this is the all time highest grossing "concert" movie worldwide and domestically (America), and also would be the highest grossing documentary worldwide (over Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11)- however, boxofficemojo.com doesn't consider it a proper "documentary".

Anyhow, Michael Jackson keeps on setting records of all kinds. I also love how there's behind the scenes/"making of" material to something that already is just that! Documentaries about documentaries!

I'm a huge MJ fan, so you know this is day 1. To all his fans: reports are out today reporting every debt that plagued his life is officially paid off. Rest in peace MJ, your young children won't have to even think or worry about money.

I did get to check THIS IS IT in theaters and it was great. However I do not feel it compare to the Blu-Ray. The video and audio you get is the best anyone and buy right now. I am looking forward to DTS-HD soundtrack. Outside of the fact Michael Jackson is and will be the "Greatest Entertainer" we will ever see. Peace Sean2070
