Warner Home Video has announced two fantasy titles from the 1980s for release on Blu-ray on March 2, 2010: 'Clash of the Titans' and 'The Neverending Story'. 'Clash of the Titans' will be presented in a Digibook case, whereas 'The Neverending Story' will come in a regular BD case. There is no information regarding audio and video specifications yet.
Hrm. I suppose it would be too much to ask for the US BD to contain the German version of Neverending Story with its original score as well... or any of the bonus features from the German DVD releases for that matter.
Ah well. It'll be nice to have a decent stateside release of this film for once. (Here's hoping, anyways.)
CotT, not one of the best Schneer fantasies, but some of Ray's best work (Medusa) and his swan song, will make this a must buy, I just hope it's done full justice.
I can't wait for COT Digibook! The Neverending Story is one of my favorite movies-I hope this is a different transfer than the Dutch Blu-Ray trainwreck from last year-I was incredibly disappointed. Great news on these 2 titles, though!
Can't wait for Clash of the Titans. I love stop motion and this film sounds good. Ironically, I hope the film sounds good on Blu with loseless. Should be good and another reason why remakes aren't totally worthless.
Considering these are Warner Brother catalog titles, hopefully, the audio will be a remixed Dolby TrueHD 5.1 soundtrack, instead of the original Dolby Surround (theatrical) aka Dolby TrueHD 2.0 audio on Blu-ray. Since I like both of these movies, I will be purchasing them regardless.
It's not too surprising that WB has decided to release 'Clash of the Titans' on March 2nd as the remake is scheduled to open theatrically on the 26th. Can't wait to watch the original on BD and I love the digibook! This is a classic flick and one of Harryhausen's best! Day one purchase for me!
Put on your thinking cap! I would rather save a few dollars, and purchase the Blu-ray in the U.S regardless of the type of packaging, and it will be definitely cheaper than buying it from the UK because, you will be subjected to pay surcharges for the merchandise, including additional shipping & handling charges for importing as well. Why pay more money, when you don't have to? Generally, consumers purchase Blu-rays for the movie, not for cover, nor it packaging.
The Titans cover DOES seem to be inviting confusion with its 300-wannabe descendant opening at around the same time.
(So, how many years do y'think it'll be before studios will be able to picture OTHER movies when making ancient-action pieces?)
I just realized that the digibook will make us stuck with that crappy cover! DAMN! Let's hope they come to their senses before then and use the poster art.
That is good news except they are getting the packaging BACKWARDS! The Neverending Story is about a BOOK if ever a movie should be in digibook ITS THAT MOVIE.
Still these are two of my favorite fantasy movies, next to Willow and Labyrinth of coarse, which I am still waiting on Willow on Blu Ray got Labyrinth day 1.
I guess I should watch more TV I didn't even know they were re-making Clash of the Titans.
Neverending Story...YES! Both of these are sure buys (after I read a few reviews). I don't 100% trust Warner's transfers of the 80's films (Gramlins, ect).
I'd be pleasantly surprised if there was a significant upgrade on the BD for 'Titans', if the dreadful transfer on the dvd is any indication. Looking forward to 'TNS'....great score featuring Limahl's memorable 80's pop hit of the same name. Interesting to note that this early film of director Wolfgang Petersen, who also directed 'Das Boot' a few years earlier (81'), would eventually go on to make my favorite epic genre film of the past dozen years, 'Troy'.
+1 for 'Legend', altho Sir Ridley Scott probably has too many new projects on the go (eg; 'Alien' reboot) to spend the time supervising or otherwise on his catalog titles....I'd also LOVE -- nay, KILL, to see another one of my favorite Scott entries, 'Thelma and Louise' on Blu.
I saw "The NeverEnding Story" for the first time on cable earlier this year and thought it was quite well-done. The film really achieved a lot, effects-wise, considering it was made way before the days of CGI. Lots of miniatures, real set pieces and models, along with some green (or blue?) screen.
I'll certainly buy this at some point, though I hope it has more by way of special features/extras.
