An early announcement to retailers indicates that 'The African Queen', the classic movie starring Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn and directed by John Huston, will be released on Blu-ray on February 23, 2010. No release details are available, but judging from the list price, this might be part of Paramount's "Sapphire Series."

Excellent news. Day 1 purchase. The catalog needs more high profile classics like this one. |

Do you mean on R1? Its been released in a few different versions R2. Agreed though, great film, hopefully will look stunning and keep the original mono track. |

As Galley's link says, it's the only film on either AFI 100 list (1998 or 2007) that was never officially released on R1 DVD. From what I've read, the rights owners in Europe were happy dumping poor-quality images onto R2 DVD, but Paramount had to track down the original film elements in the UK to do a proper transfer for both R1 DVD & BD. |

I've only ever seen this on VHS, so any new release is a much-welcomed upgrade. |

This film is truly a great film and releasing it on BD may open some younger eyes to its quality. Humor, adventure, romance -- it's all there.
I don't normally buy older films on BD but this will be an exception. I just hope the image quality is up to it. |

At this point (having been previously dicked around with the supposed Oct. 13th date), I'll believe it when I see it. |

Great news, hope they have an excellent transfer as it will breath new life into this classic piece of cinema. Now how about Key Largo. |
