Alien Blu-ray to Feature Sigourney Weaver Commentary

Share
Posted December 10, 2009 05:14 AM by Juan Calonge

20th Century FoxDuring an interview for the Los Angeles Times to promote the theatrical release of 'Avatar', actress Sigourney Weaver (who plays a botanist in James Cameron's movie) discussed all her movie career and her status as "queen of sci-fi". She also revealed that in the weeks to come, she will record a commentary for the upcoming Blu-ray release of the 'Alien' tetralogy.

“I've never done that, watched all of [the Alien movies] in a row,” Weaver said. “I just recently made my [19-year-old] daughter watch them. She had never seen them before, believe it or not. I think she just prefers to think of me as good ol' mom, you know, not some person running around a spaceship with a flamethrower.”

Nice! She already recorded one with Ridley Scott on the previous box set so hopefully she'll have some new info to talk about

"I think she just prefers to think of me as good ol' mom, you know, not some person running around a spaceship with a flamethrower.”

That would be awesome to be able to think of your mom as a woman who runs around a space ship with a flame thrower!!!

Excellent news-I can hardly sit still! I love it-and if they were to package the Blus in an Alien Head like the DVD version in Japan, which I missed, I've be stoked. I usually don't buy all of the special packaging (I am Steelbook fan instead), but I'd LOVE it for this!:) Ripley lives!;)

What is a tetralogy? Will it have AvP or something? Need the info!

A Sigourney commentary would be great for all four films. It would be great to have the cast members do a commentary for each of their corresponding films.

Ridley Scott, Tom Skerritt and SW for Alien
Cameron, SW, Michael Biehn and Bill Paxton doing Aliens
David Fincher, SW, and Charles Dutton for Alien3
SW and Winona Ryder apologizing for Alien: Resurrection

"What is a tetralogy?" It's like a quadrilogy, only using a word that really exists.

Yes; thanks for using the real word. I hope the forthcoming BD set uses it, too, instead of that inane neologism.

Very exciting news. Can't wait. The French rumors and flyers are finally giving way to more substantial evidence that this is coming.

I had never heard of the word tetralogy either. Nice to know I've been using the wrong one all these years, but I guess that's Fox's fault for putting it on the box. Now bring on the Star Wars hexalogy!

I understand that during the shooting and editing of Alien3 Director Fincher was attacked, and violated by people that were in a position to overide his choices and decisions. His vision eventually taken from him and destroyed by others that not only thought they knew better artistically, but put money first. If he were to record a commentary for the BluRay of 3 it might be very eye-opening. Even fascinating in telling how pictures go from being art to product. But of course we all know that the same thing would happen to his commentary. It would be edited and twisted to reflect the people that killed his version of Alien3 in the first place and make Fincher look like a fool.

Good for Fincher for turning his back on an opportunity to assemble a Directors cut and record a commentary for the Quadrilogy DVD and I hope he stands on that reply for the BluRay release.

I have to go google 'tetralogy' now. Never learned that word in any class. I knew the public school system failed me!

@MeE

Worth noting that the documentary on Alien3 produced for the Quadrilogy set is indeed cut to pieces just like you say a Fincher commentary would be. This is why the Alien3 behind-the-scenes footage is noticeably shorter than the others, only touches on general parts of the controversy, and credits a different director at the end (ala Alan Smithee).

But the workprint is excellent. Alien3 is my favorite.

Looking forward to the alien films too but i doubt they'll be eye candy releases as they are inheritantly dark films so i doubt they'll look that stellar but we'll see.
