The 'Alien'
tetralogy is still unannounced on Blu-ray, but one lucky person already has it at home - Sigourney Weaver has revealed that she just gave the discs to her 19-year-old daughter as a "surprise Christmas present." Previously, the New York-born actress had also said she had recorded new commentaries for all four movies (see blu-ray.com, December 10).
Sounds like a somewhat risky move. Since BD's antipiracy measures slow down, but don't prevent, piracy, this kind of pre-release disc could possibly result in the movie making it to pirate sites. I doubt Sigourney Weaver received the ONLY copies. Maybe they should send me a set for safe-keeping.
I think it's fairly obvious now that Alien trilogy will get released right before a BD release of Avatar. You have the same studio distributing both (Fox). You have the director/actor connection - S. Weaver and Cameron. I would guess April or early May.
I have still not seen any of the Alien movies but I am definitely looking forward to this coming out. What better way to see a movie for the first time than on BD. Oh, the same applies for Gone with the Wind. Yea I know, I'm a little behind on my moving watching.
still hoping fincher would sweep the past under the bridge and do his definitive alien3 (despite missing shots he planned, etc.) best he can. =P. i think all the fans want that. it's not that bad (i think), just needs to be cleaned up quite a bit.
They were probably promotional copies, that were not available for sale. Personally, I wouldn't give my children any movies, that I've starred in because, I'm their parent.
My only concern is the picture quality of the second film. It was pretty gritty and grainy to begin with (Cameron's intention, supposedly), and never particularily good looking on DVD. Did Fox rush these discs by just using the same masters as the the last DVD set, or were they remastered again?
audioquest, it doesnt have to do with Camerons intention really. 80's film stock was just very poor and grainy. So yes, the Aliens blu should have a ton of grain. I;d have it no other way.
So Sigourney's daughter gets the first 3 Alien films on bluray plus an Alien Resurection coaster... Damn all I got for christmas was a crushed soul :'(
jimmybobo, I think you gave the wrong person a dictionary.
She "starred" in these movies, she didn't "stare" in them. See liquidice's post on the first page if you still don't get the joke.
Most people on these posts are pretty well read about things like this. So may I say...
I get the impression that Fincher feels if he were to record a commentary for Alien 3 and tell it like it was, like the picture itself, his commentary would be edited and supplemented in such a way as to justify all the executive money driven decisions that were made against his Directorial wishes once again leaving him violated.
This reminds Me of the time that James Doohan refused to be interviewed by William Shatner for Shatners Star Trek Memories book saying Whatever I tell you, you'll twist it around to make you look good and me bad (So of course Shatner put that comment in his book).
Fincher knows his story would never make it to home video intact and if he were to release it as a documentary independant of Fox, out would come the lawyers, the cease and desist orders and the lawsuits. So I can see why Fincher has washed his hands of Alien 3 and I hope he stands on that decision.
I wish her kid was a member of this site so she could post a few pics of what the disc's look like. but I would guess Fox would not be too happy if that happen.
I dont think its unfair. Without Sigourney portraying Ripley there would be no Alien or Aliens for me. And I know a lot of other people feel the same way. She is one of the main reasons I rewatch them so often. I see nothing wrong with her being able to give them as a gift to her daughter. She is afterall the star of the films. I highly doubt she did it without any sort of approval from Fox. And her daughter has never even seen them so what better way than the ultimate way?
