In April 2010, Shout Factory would commence a new series of home video releases under the banner, “Roger Corman's Cult Classics”, presenting classic titles from the New World Pictures film library. The first title to come out on Blu-ray will be Joe Dante's 'Piranha', which according to retailer information will be released on May 4, 2010.
No information on technical specs or special features is available at this time, but hopefully the BD will carry over all the contents from the two-disc DVD release due out a month earlier.
Hopefully Roger Corman's Cult Classic - Rock Rock Rock Rock Rock 'N Roll High School will be released on Blu ray sometime in the near future. That little gem staring NYC's own Ramones is in dyer need of re-mastering/re-release. The non anamorphic DVD that is available now looks terrible when up converted on my HDTV.
Im surprised they arent releasing this closer to the release of Piranha 3-D which comes out April 16. Hopefully Aja can bounce back after the terrible 'Mirrors'
Isn't there a 3-D version out there? I had read once that there were plans for the 3-D version to be released on blu ray. Maybe I was just wishful thinking...
That would be great if "BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS" would be released on blu ray. That flick is a bit outdated, but it is a classic. I have the DVD version and I watch it two to three times a year. Good movie that one is. Hope they release it on blu ray soon. I will for sure pick that one up.
Corman's Poe films were shot for another studio and the video rights now belong to MGM/Fox.
The new collection will address his '70s and '80s productions when he had given up directing and was busy producing exploitation movies. There's some stuff by Paul Bartel (Death Race 2000, Eating Raoul) and many others that's waiting to be released, including as EddieBee said, the great Rock n' Roll High School.
Actually if they don't release Piranha in widescreen, I'll pass. The DVD was full screen and Joe Dante said in the commentary that he prefers it in full. If they do a really good job with the picture and sound, I may consider it.
Now I saw a copy of the Region 2 Uncut Humanoids from the Deep, and that was a stunning copy. Also the Region 2 version of Galaxy of Terror was excellent too. I can imagine how awesome those movies would look on Blu-Ray.
I also thought at first they were talking about Piranha 3-D (16 April 2010 in theaters), but we'll have to wait a little longer for that one (with Riley Steele ).
