2012 Blu-ray in March 2010 (Update)

Share
Posted January 3, 2010 04:43 AM by Juan Calonge

Sony PicturesSony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced '2012' for Blu-ray release on March 2. Roland Emmerich's hugely successful disaster movie will be available on BD in two editions: a single-disc release and a two-disc special edition (exclusive to Blu-ray) with "over 90 minutes of thrilling special features".

Bonus features for the single-disc edition include:
  • Commentary with writer/director Roland Emmerich and co-writer Harald Kloser
  • Picture-In-Picture: Roland's Vision-Includes Pre-Visualization, storyboards and behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with filmmakers, cast and crew
  • Alternate ending
  • movieIQ
  • BD-Live
The two-disc special edition features the above plus:
  • Music video: Adam Lambert, "Time For Miracles"
  • Interactive Mayan calendar: Enter a date to reveal your horoscope and personality profile
  • Featurettes:
    • Designing the End of the World
    • Roland Emmerich: The Master of the Modern Epic
    • Science behind the Destruction
    • The End of the World: The Actor's Perspective
    • Mysteries of the Mayan Calendar
    • Countdown to the Future
    • Making the music video "Time for Miracles", with Adam Lambert
  • Deleted scenes
  • Digital copy
Emmerich had revealed in an interview (see blu-ray.com, November 13) that he had shot an alternate ending that was cut out because it was "too unrealistic."

I guess this is going to begin the 1-disc bare bones and 2-disc special edition skus now. I wonder how much cheaper the 1-disc will be.

Arkadin good use of the English language. 2012 was fun. This is a diaster movie. If you want an intelligent end of the world movie, wait for The Road (awesome movie) to come out. I will pick this up when 2012 is released.

movie in my taste, first day purchase for sure, to all the sceptical ppl out there why do you even watch that kind of movies, when you already know you will hate it, i hate drama and comedy why should i see that kind of movies when i already know the answer to it. no i save my time and money to the titles i like.

I can't wait to see what size and how full the BDs are on the 1-disc and 2-disc editions. If Sony ends up using a pair of BD-25's for the 2-disc edition, or a pair of BD-50's that are nowhere near 50% full each, you can bet people will be crying foul.

With the storage capacity of BD, there is almost NO reason for this to be a 2-disc special edition.

Unless, of course, disc 2 is simply a digital copy, in which case Sony's marketing staff should be strung up, like the rest of the marketing staffs that use digital copy discs in the disc counts of releases...
