Updated: Jungle Book NOT Announced for Blu-ray

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has announced that the animated classic 'Jungle Book' will make its Blu-ray debut October 2nd. This is the first Disney animated feature to be released on Blu-ray, and will be on store shelves day and date with the upcoming DVD release. No specs have been announced at this time. Update: We have received word that the release date given for the Blu-ray version of the Jungle Book as posted in Home Media Magazine was posted in error. There are no current plans to bring Jungle Book to Blu-ray at this time. We apologize for the error.

Awesome, finding that movie on regular DVD in a store is a bitch so I was shocked to hear its coming to Blu-ray.

Are we sure HMM didn't mix up Jungle Book and Pixar Shorts? Notice the BD isn't mentioned for the Pixar Shorts. I think this is a mistake. DAMN IT! August 21 pre-book is too tight for such a key title. Darn. This can't be right.

I was worried by Disney's 2008 schedule. This holiday season is going to be important. Obviously it won't be a platinum release which means they will probably rerelease it at some point, but I'm still glad to see it coming so soon.

I would love if this title was released...but it contradicts the press release about Sleeping Beauty. In that press release it says that Sleeping Beauty will be the first Platinum Edition Blu-Ray. How is that possible, since Jungle Book is a part of the Platinum Edition line? I mean, yeah, I want Jungle Book on Blu-Ray...but where is the source of your information? I just don't want to get excited about something that isn't going to happen. And as dialog_gvf said it REALLY is cutting it close to pre-book date.

Sometimes you have to take chances in order to get the news out there as quickly as possible. Sometimes you're right, and sometimes you're wrong. Sometimes, you stumble upon something that hasn't been officially announced (and thus, can't be confirmed by the studios) but is none-the-less true. All the time, someone won't be happy.
