Anniversary Blu-ray for Fellini's La Dolce Vita

Share
Posted January 26, 2010 02:26 PM by Juan Calonge

Blu-ray MoviesIndependent distributor E1 Entertainment has announced that it has acquired all North American rights to 'La Dolce Vita', as well as other classic Italian films by Vittorio de Sica and Luchino Visconti. A theatrical re-release and a 50th Anniversary Blu-ray of Federico Fellini's 1960 masterpiece are planned for later this year.

As part of this new deal with International Media Films, E1 has also acquired rights to Vittorio de Sica's 'Shoe-Shine' (Sciuscià; 1946), plus three important early films by Luchino Visconti: 'Bellissima' (1951), 'La terra trema' (1948), and 'Ossessione' (1943).

WoW!!!

If we get a restoration on the level of Viva Las Vegas, this is going to be mindblowing for the first time in 50 years!!!

A whole new generation will get to see this like never before.

Il Grande Cinema Italiano!

Simply incredible. Hopefully, another studio would step up and acquire Franco Cristaldi's library...

What fantastic news!!

Fantastic news indeed! I've never seen Shoe-Shine due to its limited availability, so I might blind-buy if the movie is fully restored.

I'll reserve judgment until I know more about E1 Entertainment. Anything less than immaculate for La Dolce Vita on Blu-ray is unacceptable. It's a landmark film.

Prays they come through on this one.

It looks like E1 is the distributor or owner of Koch Lorber, who did a really nice job on the restored DVD. But yeah, I wish it had been Criterion, because they only get one shot at making this the landmark Blu-Ray moment that it should be... fingers crossed that they do it right.

Excellent. I just picked up the Criterion 8 1/2. La Dolce Vita will make a great companion piece. I'm looking forward to the eventual (?) blu of the gloriously polychromatic Juliet of the Spirits as well.

I wonder if E1 will do a Blu-ray of "Bicycle Thieves." I kept hoping for a Criterion BD release of that wonderful, unforgettable film.
