about Fox - OH #$*&!!!

Can someone start a "buy the bug a Blu-Ray" fund for me? Fox is going to bankrupt me and I couldn't be happier! Thanks!

IMO this makes the Paramount Announcement a wash....actually based off this list alone, my Fox vs. Paramount purchases for the 4th quarter are 12Fox BD's, vs. 4 Paramount HDDVD's. I decided to pass on the Jack Ryan collection since it's HDDUD only now & Blades of Glory. Paramount will see less of my money (a dual format supporter) with their decision to back the lesser spec format. I just can't fathom a deep investment of their titles to play back on buggy equipment and backed by a monopolistic pig of a company lining their pockets like Microsoft is.
I say...Screw em, HDDVD needs Paramount more than BD did anyhow...and I'll take this FOX/MGM trade any day of the week!!!

I hope that Paramounts greed is the final nail in the coffin for Microsoft. I hope we see the other studios making announcements similar to this soon. It'd kill the format war almost instantly. The customers would benefit and the studios would benefit. The only loser would be Microsoft, and boo fucking hoo for them.

Paramount was upsetting. I would have purchased Transformers ( and I know I am going to get killed for this) but now I won't since I really didn't think it was all that great. I sure hope they are releasing 28 Weeks Later day and date too.... This made the Paramount news not so bad.

Alot of these will be great, but it's all about the Die Hard Series for me!!! Yippie-ki-yay Fox! Paramount is a pretty big disappointment, especially for future releases like Braveheart, Titanic, etc. (assuming they're not back with BD when those happen, or at least neutral again). However, since Spielberg titles aren't exclusive, I wonder where the Indiana Jones series will end up over this, as they are one of the bigger titles in Paramount's catalog? Of course, technically those are also Lucasfilm...and Spielberg. Still, I've gotta believe those will end up on HD or BD around the time of Indy 4 next year, so that should be interesting. In the mean-time, three more cheers for Fox!!!

Love ya Fox ! I see several movies from this list I'll be looking forward to seeing at 1080p with uncompressed pcm, and looking forward to the bd-java and bd-live functionality. Now do what must be done and put an end to this destructive format war, release The Star Wars Original trilogy and Prequel Trilogy on Blu-Ray !!!

The only movies from Paramount that I wish I could get Only blu-ray are Transformers and Shrek, but I am so happy that Fox has the will power not to sell out like Paramount. These Fox movies will get me by until those 2 Paramount or should I say Dreammount releases there 2 good movies of the year. There was one bit I good news that I got out of all of this and that is that Spielberg stated that his movies that he directed will not be exclusive to either format. That means his movies will be release on DVD, HD-DVD, and of course the format that is going to win the war blu-ray. YAY that means that is Indiana Jones 4 will be available in blu-ray if the war has not ended by the time it is released.

Yeah even as a Trek fan I can live without. I haven't bought any seasons of the show (any of the Trek programs) because I'm not paying 100 bucks a pop when I can turn on cable and record them. Not that he was ever that far out of favor for me, but if George Lucas actually stepped up and released the entire Star Wars saga as a Blu-ray exclusive set, he would be completely redeemed to me!!! That sure would hold some water in this stupid-ass war, and it would just be so sweet if he swooped in like the tech-savvy, industry-shaping Lucas of old and saved the day. Not that BD is doomed in any way, and that is surely wishful thinking, but that would just be so frickin' awesome!!

Codywan24
 - Aug 21, 2007

Vote plusVote minus

My other fear, and this was hinted at as a grim possibility over at The Digital Bits, is that WB might follow Paramount and switch to HD-DUD exclusive in exchange for short term cash incentives from MS. That would be very bad as they also have New Line (LOTR anyone??!!). I'm reeeaaalllly looking forward to owning Harry Potter, Batman Begins, LOTR and countless other WB/NL titles on BD, and that would just plain suck, not to mention truly create a wide gap of studio support holes to really fuel this war on and on and on (that would mean Universal, Paramount, Dreamworks and WB/NL vs. Fox, MGM, Disney, Lionsgate, & Sony...Yikes!). God forbid, if that does indeed happen, both BD and HD-DUD could end up going the way of SACD and DVD-audio. Microsoft sure would be happy then, wouldn't they? As happy as I am with Fox and as dissapointed as I am with Paramount, the key now has got to be WB remaining at least neutral as they have been, or HD formats as a whole could be in real trouble. Maybe all of us here should put our heads together and think of a way to try and keep WB on our side for a while!!!!
