Alien Anthology Blu-ray for Christmas

A recent promotional Blu-ray flyer from 20th Century Fox prominently features H.R.Giger's creature jumping menacingly at the reader, atop the caption "Alien Anthology Coming to Blu-ray Christmas 2010." The specific use of the word "Anthology" raises the possibility that this BD collection could include not only the "Quadrilogy" movies, but also Alien vs. Predator and Aliens vs. Predator Requiem.

Wow, that's way too long, considering they're already done. Peter Jackson got his not too long ago and we're getting that set in April... Oh well, a sweet Xmas it will be! |

Good lord I hope not.
Better be individual releases. There may be 2 amazing movies in there but i'm not buying it if there's 4 crap ones too. |

What do you mean "Peter Jeckson got his not too long ago and we're getting that set in April" Are you saying that PJ already has the Alien films on Blu? to what set in April do you refer? Also I don't think that they'll package AVP and AVP:R in the set, I think they changed the name because they realised that "Quadrilogy" isn't even a real word............ |

wow, I was still hoping for a release before summer around june...
I am sure that most of the people who want to get Alien in blu-ray have already alien vs pred 1 & 2 in their collection... so why Fox would decide to put those 2 in this box? |

Peter Jackson received his LOTR blu-rays before they were announced. Sigourney Weaver received the Alien Anthology before Christmas 09. Just seems pretty weak that we have to wait an entire year, even though they're completed |

To "I am blu": Same reason I never bought the Harryhausen box. Like every other Harryhausen fan, I already had one of the four films on blu. That's pushing me too far. |

I agree with Andy3105. I don't think they'll be including the AVP releases, I think they just ditched Quadrilogy for Anthology because 1) they want to differentiate it from the original DVD release and 2) Quadrilogy is a stupid word. |

You wrote: "Sigourney Weaver received the Alien Anthology before Christmas 09." Are the Alien BRD's really finished? Do you have a source on this? |

miller_time22: Quadrilogy isn't actually a word.
Trilogy is a word, coming from ancient Greek roots. Latin and Greek used similar words for the "three" word but "-logy" comes from "logos" (story), which is definitely Greek.
"Quadrilogy" clumsily mixes Greek and Latin, while there was an existing proper word, tetralogy, which was all Greek and is used, for instance, to speak of Warner's Ring. And "quadrilogy" isn't even better sounding or easier to understand.
Actually, quadrilogy exists only at Fox' marketing department to speak of the "Die Hard" and "Alien" franchises, which confirms, if needed so, they are a bunch of illiterate. |

I doubt the set will include the two AvP films, odds are they are calling it an "anthology" because with ridley scott's prequel in pre-production the solo alien franchise is soon to be more then 4 films. Meaning that the word Quadrilogy can't be used with the films anymore because there is soon to be 5 films and calling it a Fiveoquadron or something would just sound stupid |

Can't wait! I mean I really can't wait! Why pushed back another year??? I, too, hope it's just the Alien series (Quad). |

@jk1138: IIRC the prior announcements said "Alien Quadrilogy", which clearly meant the four main films (Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, Alien Resurrection). This one says "Alien Anthology", which could mean something else--add AVP & AVP:R (as the article suggests--though I'd think AVP was a separate franchise), drop Alien Resurrection (Alien 3 was a more appropriate ending IMO), or just rebranding.
Per Wikipedia, the most appropriate term for a series of four is "tetralogy", but "quadrilogy" has recorded uses as far back as 1865--despite it being a contortion of Latin & Greek elements coined from the familiar "trilogy". ("Trilogy" and "tetralogy" both have Greek roots.) Nonetheless, "Quadrilogy" was used before, so changing it to "Anthology" without explaining the difference is confusing.
(@Wdm81: Unless they plan to include the prequel in THIS box--highly unlikely--that does NOT explain the change of name. In fact, if this is still the first four it's best to call it "Quadrilogy" again--or "Tetralogy"--and leave "Anthology" for the inevitable box of 5, or 7 with AVP.) |

Well, just a while ago I paid ten bucks for 'The Alien TRILOGY' at Target. Yes, they didn't include the 4th film. I'd never seen it but heard it was mega crap and that it was a clone. I'd also never seen Alien 3. The disc was kind of poor though. Audio had to be cranked a lot, and I have 7 speakers. I'm happy for now. I'll buy it in 5 years or so. I try not to re-watch films that close together. It decreases my memory of events |
