Law Abiding Citizen was the top-selling title on Blu-ray during the week ended February 21, according to Nielsen VideoScan First Alert. Second place was for the Xbox 360 video game spinoff Halo Legends, which performed much better on high-def than on standard definition (it was only sixth in the overall packaged-media sales chart).
Blu-ray disc revenue: $18.58 million (up 39.35% from the same week last year)
Packaged media sales revenue: $239.07 million (up 16.91% from the same week last year)
Blu-ray revenue share: 7.8%
I think that the price tag on this helped. It was down to $14.99 in my town at one place. And it is a really good movie, which helped. One of the stronger word of mouth / blind-buys I have seen in a long time.
Funny that a Microsoft game movie spinoff sold so well on Blu seeing as how Microsoft doesn't support BD. How are all the fanboys watching it? Did they hack their HD-DVD addon drives?? lol
I think Halo Legends sales has a lot to do with there being a Steelbook release for the title. I am sure there are a few dozen folks on this website who would probably not have purchased it otherwise.
Law abiding citizen was miled better then i was expecting it to be, i figured it would be a basic run of the mill out for justice movie, but it was alot deeper and cooler then that. Butler and foxx were great together hopefully they do more work in the future
Alot of gamers with a Xbox 360 do have a high definition television and are at least smart enough to at have a blu ray player or a PS3. Not very surprised it did poorly on DVD, but I imagined it did alot better on digital downloads on Xbox live (remember they do have a digital distribution HD service).
