As the 15th anniversary of the theatrical release of David Fincher's Se7en (aka Seven) approaches, early retailer information indicates that Warner Home Video will release this celebrated serial-killer movie in the UK on October 25. There is no information regarding release details or special features at the moment.
Wow I am really getting angry at seeing these announcements and then when I read the paragraph it says it is for the UNITED KINGDOM. This is a US site I only care about US announcements. Anyway you guys can have a setting to only see US news?
Red-as far as I know, this site covers all releases. It may be based in the US, but since people visit the site from all over the world, and most discs are not region locked, announcements are made for world wide releases. You can change your settings to only see US News and Release Info.
This is an international website . . . and it is at the very least interesting to know that a long-awaited title is being released somewhere, even if it is not in one's own country. Did you know that here in the UK I still can't get two of the James Bond films that have been released in the US?
Yeah, it has already been released here in Canada. The aspect ratio for our Blu-ray is 1.85 (or 1.78--can't remember) instead of the film's original 2.40... which is why I haven't picked it up. I'm hoping we get the US release and that it's of the film in its proper AR.
Hate that cover, but LOVE this movie. One of the best screenplays ever written, the dialogue is just so amazing no matter how many times you watch it.
Hope this is a really great transfer, I've been looking forward to this one for a while.
So wait. I'm in America. What does this mean? Let me explain: I usually come in here (blu-ray.com), read that a catalog title is coming to Blu-ray, then sell my old DVD because I know I will finally be replacing it. So, will SE7EN be coming to Bluray Disc in the USA?
It's WB so I'm sure the OAR will be preserved. Alliance released a 1080i version with the wrong AR (1:78). Also WB's UK BDs are always region free so... I'm all over this one
For those who are complaining about the cover, the image as shown, is actually the original theatrical poster artwork. The cover that's featured on the re-issue 2 disc DVD from New Line Cinema in the U.S has been redesigned. Typically, consumers doesn't purchase their movie media, based upon its cover artwork, you buy it for the movie itself. The Blu-ray quality from Alliance Studios in Canada is terrible, which features an horrendous incorrect aspect ratio cropped to 1.78:1 from its OAR of 2.40:1, and 1080i resolution. Hopefully, these specifications will be corrected, and improved on the UK release.
Interesting to discover that the Canadian Blu-ray has an aspect ratio of 1.78:1. Given that the film was shot in super35mm, anyone who has this BD should not be losing much of the width of the frame and is actually gaining additional picture information at the top and bottom of the frame.
i have seven on blu for a year now, with reference picture, i bought mine in sweden where i live, but the movie come from holland:) really good quality and very cheap to. i bought even blade all trilogy with reference quality.
The art shown in this article was created after the fact for the DVD and VHS release. It sucked then and still does. The original poster is as awesome now as it was in 1995.
If the transfer is not the Canadian version (which is 1080i and looks like an upconverted DVD), this will be a first day buy for me, no matter what country releases it or what region code it is...
I have both the original US Theatrical posters, one of which is framed in my office...they are stunning.
Talking of which, it would be nice if Warner had somehow secured the rights from Criterion for all the poster concept art that was on the 4-Disc Laserdisc. If my memory serves me well, there were around 100 different designs, some of which were astonishingly beautiful.
the canadian one also has something wrong with its telecine flags, doesn't play back correctly @ 24p, 1080i source. Probably came from a HDTV broadcast master.
If this release is region-free I'll be picking it up day one! If not, hopefully they will announce a U.S. release as well. Either way it's good Seven is finally coming to Blu-Ray.
What about a USA release? This article only mentions a UK release. Se7en is a fantastic thriller by Fincher and is probably my favorite film by him. Spacey, Freeman and Pitt all give very solid performances in this twisted tale.
There were a lot of these movies in the 90s that I loved that I have just outgrown over time. This was my favorite of the bunch and now all I can say is, Meh.
look for the warners treatment on this blu-ray. i almost promise you it will be pretty scaled back and a single disc. true hd a lock! new line need to go back to the way it used to be 7.1 dts-hd ma.
My fellow Americans shouldn't get so excited. WB released The Goonies in the UK last year, but they still haven't released it in the US. Just because they release a movie in the UK doesn't mean that we'll get it at the same time.
I prefer the original theatrical vertsion but alas, I think that is gone forever. Now we have the digitally warmed version that replaces the blues and grays with oranges and yellows.
It's not bad, I just prefer the original. The whole point of the movie is how selfish and cold everyone in that city has become. Now that t has a warm color palette, that gets lost.
If it's like the dutch version(only extra was a SD trailer)you are in for a treat PQ&AQ wise.Fenomenal!I would buy a UK release if they put in some effort like a cool metal case with extras although have lots of extras on DVD.Think this is one of the best ever movies made.
slimdude: You think those two look similar?? They both have the actors on them. What else is close to being the same? The original poster is WAY better.
This is the cover I have on the single disc UK release DVD (although this is the two disc version on Amazon the cover is the same. In the UK it was always shown as SE7EN even on the film posters when it was released.
It will be bare bones release no doubt. One day maybe we'll see the special edition 2 disc DVD on blu but don't hold your breath. And as long as it has taken for this to come to blu...I'd be amazed that we are gonna get a great PQ / AQ release.
