SPHE Eclipses 250K Units in Europe; Nears 1M in US

Posted August 30, 2007 11:25 AM by Josh Dreuth

IFA Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that Blu-ray disc sales from the company have eclipsed 250,000 units in Europe and are nearing the 1,000,000 mark in the US. In Europe, similar to the US, Blu-ray is outselling HD DVD by a rate of 2:1 and continues to be the dominate high definition format.

Wow

Clearly, the European number includes the 500K give away Casino Royale's (That's a joke folks - a certain side usually accuses Sony with including give aways and games in their totals.)

Very impressive Sony!

That's good I guess...I just wish all high def sales were doing better.
If we'd have had one format, sales wouldn't be this slow on both formats.

Does anyone know if Toshiba or any other Maufacturer had any major announcements today? I can't find any anywhere!

I love Blu-Ray and while I see this war raging for at least another year Blu-Ray will win!

The technology has way more up side than HD-DVD because it has been developed better and has way too much backing to lose!

This is awesome, but does anyone know a website that shows the news of HD-DVDumb, so we can see what the competition is doing?

This does not suprise me. I was in Europe visiting some family over the summer and I saw Blu-ray in every eletronic store, even small local ones!!

Some asked if I knew anything about High Definition and I told them "no" (to see what they would say) and they told me that blu-ray was great and the next big thing in DVDs anyway.....HD-DVD was no where to be found.

The European DVD/HD market looks very BLU indeed from what I saw.

Abc Talker...the best website that I know of is HighDefDigest.com
They provide unbalanced HD news for both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD.
And they usually keep VERY up to date.
