Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that Blu-ray disc sales from the company have eclipsed 250,000 units in Europe and are nearing the 1,000,000 mark in the US. In Europe, similar to the US, Blu-ray is outselling HD DVD by a rate of 2:1 and continues to be the dominate high definition format.
Clearly, the European number includes the 500K give away Casino Royale's (That's a joke folks - a certain side usually accuses Sony with including give aways and games in their totals.)
This does not suprise me. I was in Europe visiting some family over the summer and I saw Blu-ray in every eletronic store, even small local ones!!
Some asked if I knew anything about High Definition and I told them "no" (to see what they would say) and they told me that blu-ray was great and the next big thing in DVDs anyway.....HD-DVD was no where to be found.
The European DVD/HD market looks very BLU indeed from what I saw.
Abc Talker...the best website that I know of is HighDefDigest.com
They provide unbalanced HD news for both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD.
And they usually keep VERY up to date.
That report was in the FIRST year of the NEW technology that we know of as.. DVD. 2 to FIVE HUNDRED titles in ONE year...in the U.S. Everybody, remember this: The Laser Disc was the future in Hi Def. This BR vs. HD-DVD fiasco will end in tears for both sides
