In its second week on shelves, Alice in Wonderland was again the top-selling title on Blu-ray, according to data from Nielsen VideoScan for the week ended June 13. Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island came in a strong second, selling more than 80% as many units as Alice. From Paris with Love was third, and The Wolfman dropped to fifth place.
Blu-ray sales revenue: $19.52 million (down 1.98% from the same week last year)
Packaged media sales revenue: $142.88 (down 31.47% from the same week last year)
Blu-ray revenue share: 13.7%
Question: in Alice's case, Blu-ray sales = sales of the Blu-ray single disc version + sales of the Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Combo?
Can you please (if such data is made available) post the number of units sold of each? (or the ration of one to another). Curious to find out what version people are buying when both are available.
3 disk for me Joen. If theres a 3 disk available, I get it. I dont use the digital copies nor do I use the DVDs, I just cant justify NOT getting the better of the available options. Call me crazy
@theokbadguy: I too have to get the best available option. I think it's some sort of disease. On a more serious note, the $5 is worth the upgrade just for the DVD (still have a DVD player in the living room).
You guys are crazy. Had I bothered with AIW, would have got the BD-only option. Have no need for even more useless discs. And buying them only encourages even more down the line; heck they may even go with flippers if you encourage them too much. Waited until this week for the Shutter Island price drop, it was too much last week.
Wish I had waited a couple days to get "Shutter Island", but this Blu-ray disease eats away at me when great films come out, I must buy them A.S.A.P. Ended up spending $6-7 more dollars than I could have, had I waited 5 days or so. :-( I lost the receipt too, so I can't return it just yet.
More people chose the combo because the $10 coupon was only good for that version, so why pay $20 when you can have more for $17?... And although some stores will take it on the single disc version, not everyone here would stoop that low to even try using it...
I picked up the 3-disc because I actually use the dvd copy to let family borrow it or for when the kids want to take the portable dvd player on the road or to grandma's. I also upload the digital copies into Itunes. I don't have use for them yet, but I'll be getting an Itouch soon enough, and they'll come in handy. I could have one kid watching a dvd on the player, and another one could watch something on the Itouch (they'll be borrowing it from me 'til I get them all one), and it'll be nice and quiet in the car.
Oh, and with Disney's $10.00 coupon for the 3-disc, it was a no brainer to get it since it was cheaper than the single disc release. The little extra slipcover and artcards Best Buy had was a nice touch as well.
I'll gladly buy more of them if they keep releasing them, but I will stop if they resort to flippers. I have no use for flippers, and that would be a stupid move on Disney's part if they started releasing them that way.
I only used the DVD once that came with a package.. Namely from AVATAR to give it someone.. And back when Rambo was released I used the Digital Copy just to see how that works.. But you guys are right.. It's some sort of disease.. I can never get the cheap version if there is something better out..
@ gamma626
Say, for instance, Alice sold 10,000 units. 80% of 10,000 is 8,000. More than 80% would be over 8,000 units. Just take the # of Alice units sold and multiply that # by .8 to find # of Shutter Island units sold.
I picked up the 3-disc version on ebay.....i will not use the dvd or the digital copy more than likely but i couldn't pass it up. It was only 15$ brand new and the shipping was free :~) Great Movie!
