IFA 2007: Daewoo Blu-ray Player

Posted September 6, 2007 08:30 AM by Webmaster

IFA Daewoo surprised everyone by unveiling a Blu-ray player supporting Profile 2.0, which means that the player supports picture-in-picture (PiP) functionality, as well as web-enabled interactivity (BD-Live). The player comes in two models, the DBP-1000 and DBP-2000, with the only difference being that the DBP-1000 comes with a blue-hued front and the DBP-2000 comes in black. The players, which come in a 55mm slim design (2.17 inches), feature 1080p/24, HDMI 1.3 and are backwards compatible with DVD and CD.

The Daewoo representative said that they plan to release it worldwide in Q1 2008, possibly as early as January. As for the price they could only give ballpark figures, but they basically said way less than $1,000 and that it could be less than $500.

It like every week (or more often) there is a new Blu-ray player available. And this one is a beauty too

I think they are upscaling. Even a snif of any Star Wars Blu Ray would be major news!!!!

If that's up-scaling, then it has a MAJOR scaling processor. Worth checking out.

I'm skeptical about spending any amount of money on a product made by Daewoo. Literally the only thing they are known for is making extremely inexpensive versions of other peoples products..including cars!

I can't wait till they announce the price and I hope it is priced between $299-$399. BTW if its a Star Wars BD HD-DUD better watch out. I doubt it I just think it is being upscaled to show off the quality of the upscaler which must be damn good.

That reflective glass enclosure is not exactly ideal for picture taking. I would like to see some pics of this unit a bit more up close.
