Geek Peek: Back to the Future Trilogy Limited Edition Tin Blu-ray

Posted September 18, 2010 05:42 AM by Juan Calonge

Universal StudiosIn the UK, Universal Home Entertainment is releasing the Back to the Future Trilogy in three editions: a regular three-disc box set, a Limited Edition Delorean box set and a Limited Edition tin, whose contents have now been revealed in full display. It includes a blueprint for the Delorean, an 'Outatime' number plate, a 1950-2000 Sports Almanac, a lenticular photo of Marty McFly's family, posters, and artcards.

Region coding has not been revealed, but Universal titles from the UK are usually region-free.

I wonder if the Almanac will have real stats from real sports teams. Seeing as 1950-2000 has happened by this point. Cause that would be AMAZING.

Am I the only one worried that the Sports Almanac will be just a cardboard piece of paper with the cover?

I HATE the UK. You get this badass edition with the rerelease in theaters. WTF Universal. I almost never go see anything in the theater anymore but I would shell out 10 to see this.

I suppose if the almanac is just the front cover then they could say it's following the movie as the sleeve gets taken off and put onto another book.

Pretty much 100% of Universal titles are region-free just like Warner Bros.

I'll be getting the standard version I don;t like the movies enough to get limited packaging. Aliens on the other hand...

I must admit the tin looks pretty cool .But, That's a lot of money for paper and a tin can. Now why couldn't they have just the set in a smaller tin. I have lots of movies i need the space.

I don't care about an almanac but I'll take the Delorean Edition!

The almanac will just be the cover. Underneath it will be a copy of Ooh La La.

region free or not, i'd get this for the tin case, buy the US addition too cause the case and the goodies are well worth the double dip for collection purposes! This site already has all three UK release versions listed as Region B locked; of course that may change by release date.

The site has them listed as region B, not region B locked. That's the default setting before region coding has been tested. No region coding on Amazon should be trusted - they always say region B. I have a multi-region player (best money I ever spent), but every Universal title I have ever bought from region B has been region free, though a couple have been 50 Hz. I doubt you'd have any problem playing this on a region A player.

@TheExit148 & photograph17 america is in a recession so the studios think us americans are poor and not willing to shell out the extra cash for them. Unfortunately for them they dont realize that the type of people that are into this sort of thing have the money and the will to spend it on these items. So for us we get shafted and have to import them or not. So in summation thanks universal for nothing.

Good point Jim, my guess is that they would only list the stats of major events, i.e. USA vs. USSR in 1980 Olympic hockey, Super Bowl winners, Stanley Cup winners, Celtics vs. Lakers, Michael Jordan and the Bulls, NY Yankees, Secretariat, and Flutie's hail mary pass vs. Miami., etc., etc. etc......

Even if this is region-free, will the extras still play in a U.S. player? Specifically, a PS3?

@ZacharyTF
Should be possible. I bought a UK copy of Casino Royale and all the extras ran fine on my North American PS3 and TV.

Before anyone wants to jump onto the Delorean packaged edition, I'd like to point out that there is a meticulously detailed model of the Delorean assembled and kitted for display available from Japan if you just go look for it.

It's manufactured by a company called Skynet (yes, same as Terminator...)

http://www.hwjapan.com/sh/SKY172127d.aspx

I got one of these, and the "time circuits" actually light up if you throw a pair of AA's into it.

I had ordered the Tin Box in late July I believe, just because I love the movies and want a special release of them on BD.
Now I see what more they actually include... wow, I'm impressed!
Just hope the bigger posters and all won't be folded to death.
Guess there isn't much choice, but still, it's cool that they did this.
Much better than yet another model replica of something in the movie, it's so cliché.
It's more expensive than the Tin Box Set and the model doesn't even look good.

Anyway, looks like the release of 'Back To The Future' will be great for the fans and the film.
