Evil Dead Limited Edition Blu-ray Sold Out

Posted October 6, 2010 11:28 AM by Juan Calonge

Anchor Bay EntertainmentWhen Sam Raimi's The Evil Dead was released on Blu-ray , it came out in a limited edition set, which included a special features DVD. Now Amazon and other retailers are already sold out of this first edition and are selling a single-disc release, which drops most of the extras from the limited edition, with the exception of the audio commentary.

Those interested in this title should note that this week Best Buy is offering The Evil Dead for $9.99. Some forum members are reporting having found the two-disc set at their local stores, whereas at others it was already sold out.

Interesting. I won the 2-disc set from a contest. Haven't watched it yet but it'll be the first time I actually watch Evil Dead period!

Hopefully this means it is selling well and AB can put Phantasm out next

That explains why it's only $9.99 now that it's finally shown up at Best Buy.

Just picked it up at Best Buy in Westbury, NY. It was the single-disc edition. I was pissed, but I guess it's my fault for waiting.

SethRex, just a tip, don't go into it expecting it to be really scary or anything. It's just a cult movie so it does have it's cheesy parts and the such, but overall it is very enjoyable. Once you watch the 1st one if you haven't seen the other 2 parts you'll definitely want to lol.

My work only has the single-disc (Best Buy) which I wasn't aware but I did feel that the case was light so I didn't expect the DVD disc, which I really hoped for.

See, when catalog titles are priced appropriately they sell like crazy. Studios take note.

CRAP! I Saw the limited edition on Amazon last night for 9.99 and was planning to buy it today. I am too late!

Usually, limited edition set is meaningless marketing spiel, but I guess it was true here – who knew. I’m happy to have the extra disc, as I’ve never owned this before on dvd; however, anyone looking for the extra features should have no problem finding them on one of the gazillion previous dvd releases.

Which DVD was included? Surely it's still in print in the DVD sets.

Don't worry. This gets re-issued every other year with some new set of features. Maybe next time they'll all be on the blu-ray.

I saw the "limited" edition at Wal-Mart. Doesn't appear so special looking to me. I guess the DVD makes it "limited."

Go figure. A limited edition that's actually limited. Then again, this is Anchor Bay we're talking about here. Rest assured, Evil Dead will be re-released many times throughout the life of this format.

@ SpaceDog:
Because of the Extras: yes all were found in the 2007 DVD UE.
The Advantage of the BD LE is all Extras from the UE DVD Set are now on 1 DVD (spread over the 3 DVDs in the UE). Otherwise nothing Special or new Material on the DVD.

But I am glad for once something that says "limited" really is limited for once.

Yeah, it's like those Blu-rays that have slipcovers for about a week and then it's impossible to find them anywhere(I'm looking at you, Moon!)

for those wondering, they have the same barcode, next time buy the movie to support the release if you love the film. those who waited lose out.

i hope more studios adopt the "limited means limited" mantra.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the Best Buy I work at still has it. I think I might have to pick this up, even though I myself have never seen it. $9.99 is too good of a deal to pass up if so.

I'll check my best buy when I go there. Maybe living in a fairly small town with mostly people who own VHS systems will pay off once again. I've never seen the movie though and since the "extra" disc is a DVD I won't be heartbroken if it's gone.

kinoeye

Despite being on a budget, hearing this news I popped into an HMV and dropped $19.99 on a limited edition release (probably a somewhat normal price for this disc in Canada). My guess is that some HMV's in Canada will have a few in stock for the next while.

Have it on right now, it's strange to see this movie looking so crisp.

Mobe1969

So it looses a disc of dvd extras... Was there anything actually new on that DVD?

flix1
 - Oct 06, 2010

Vote plusVote minus

The LE disc in the Blu-ray set does not port all of the extras from the UE DVD set. The only exclusive to the Blu-ray is a new commentary, which is already on the Blu-ray, not the extra LE DVD.

I'm lucky I got in early then! The 2-disc version is on it's way to me right now. It should arrive today or tomorrow hopefully. I guess it was a good idea getting the US release with the OAR and the extra disc as here in Australia it won't include the OAR version.

You never can have too much of "The Chin".

Now all we need is a quality ED2 release and my collection can be complete.

I have seen this movie by mistake in 1982 at the tender age of 5 when my parents, who were normally very responsible, left the VHS movie in the VCR, so my older brother and I watched and almost peed our pants, at the time the effects were, well effective. Since then this has been my all time fav cult classic horror! nothing ever could scare me after watching it.

Anywho, I just got home from Walmart I bought the Walmart exclusive Beauty and the Beast bluray and while I was browsing I noticed (due to having read this post earlier) that they have 3 LE Evil Deads left. I'm in Kingston, ON.
Cheers!

As I do not care at all about special features, I wish I would have waited and picked this up for 10 bucks instead of 17 at Wal-Mart. I suppose I am probably the only person who actually feels that way though. LOL! I am glad to see that limited edition literally meant something this time, though. Kudos to Anchor Bay for that.

kinoeye
 - Oct 07, 2010

Went through the special features today after running out to secure a copy and I must say, you aren't missing all that much if you don't get this disc. Those who are already familiar with the trials and tribulations and succes and influence associated with the production and distribution (particularily in England) of this film won't find this limited edition bonus material all that informative. The hour of unused outtake and rough footage is interesting, good background fodder for a party.

Of course, collectors will be collectors and many probably already have this material from DVD releases.

Glad I picked it up the day it was released! I love special features and would have kicked myself if I had waited (as this is one of my favorite movies!). I saw a few copies at Walmart the last time I was in there, though I think I'm the only person in this town that actually likes this movie. hahaha

In case you are not familiar with Anchor Bay and their limited editions, this is only limited until the next new extra special super duper limited edition copy comes out. it should be within the next year.

I wound up buying the last LE in my city, but had to return it due to an error on the disc. Thankfully I found one of the last two in the next city over, but even then I had a feeling that this would be hard to get your hands on.

I saw it for 10 at Best Buy and told my friend. He literally left work to pick it up, and drove by to show me his haul. I was absolutely amazed that they put out these two editions so fast. The non-limited has been floating around for about a week it seems.

Thanks for posting this! I went to Borders to take advantage of their 50% off sale today and originally had 'The Darjeeling Limited' and 'Ghost in the Shell' in my hand. Then I saw 'The Evil Dead', noticed it was the Limited Edition, remembered this post and grabbed it instead of 'Ghost in the Shell'.
